RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
I got another step closer. Used the balancer I got from G-Pete. It works great. It is easier to use then the Vanessa Rig.
I had to use a lot less lead to balance then I first thought. moving the batteries forward helped a lot. I'll get a final weight on it after I get it flight ready.

Hi Old Tom,
Just looking at the pics of your P-47 being balanced.
Wondering if you should be balancing with the gear up as the wheels move back as they retract.
I normally balance in the configuration that will produce the most rearward c of g.
Don't know what the top flite manual suggests?
Looking forward to seeing this bird fly....
Cheers
Mick

Thanks guys. There is still some work to do after balancing. Mostly under the cowl and I would like to get more then 3 retracts pet air charge. We may be about 2 weeks out for the maiden.
Mick. I was thinking along the same lines as you but someone told me to do it with the wheels out. I haven't looked at the manual in over a year and don't even know where it is.

Tom
Did you cant them back ie: scale or the way T/F has them ??? If they are back I would agree with Mick, but if they are per T/F I don't see that it would make a differance.
Just my thoughts, but eather way I would be alittle on the nose heavy for the maiden.
Cheers Bob T
PS looks like this afternoon might be fly able so off the the field

L/G in the T/F location. C/G is at 5 1/4 back at rib 5. I'm not going to out guess T/F on this one. I think I'll be adding a little more weight to the nose before I'm finished with brackets, paint and some more glue. So I think I'll be on the safe side.
Got some more pictures for you. I'll post them later tonight when I get finished with taming the jungle in the yard.

Got the box filled with lead. Didn't quite fill it up but thats OK with me. Thats my friend Ron who had the equipment to melt and pour the lead.
I thought it would burn the inside of the box but it didn't show any signs of it so its all good. Looks like intermittent rain in the forecast so I may get a cance to work on it some more tomorrow.

Finished making and mounting the brackets this morning and finalized the ignition batterie location.
I got to hot to work in the shop already. The body isn't used to the heat and the humidity yet.
I'll piddle with taking it back apart and painting what needs painted for the rest of the day. Will see how far we get.

Actually they served me well in another plane and proven themselves to be tough. He He! Tougher then the plane they came from. It is now considered proven technology.

That is in the plans. I have to take the wing off to do that so it'll have to wait.

RT3232,
Its been a long time since I looked into the thread ( all 300+ pages!) but I still have the GS Topflite P47 in its box. I keep tempting myself with swapping for a F4U but there is something about the Jug. Peter Oz (years ago now) made a significant change to the structure by placing the undercarriage at scale sweep back and I keep thinking: "maybe I could do that! under his tutorship" I also have recently bought the Ziroli plans which already incorporate the scale angles for the gear. Which to start????? Decisions, decisions!
Need to finish my Flair Stearman first but decision is rapidly approaching for next project. I keep being brought back to reality by the cost of the retracts themselves - more expensive that the kit , especially when retracting tailwheel included. I must chat with "other half" tomorrow and convince her of the beauty of airborne lines of P47 with gear retracted.... Chances!!!!!!
Harrier Mate.

Harrier mate
I to liked what pete did with the kit. Sooo having forgot most of the math I tried to learn in colage, I took the easy way out and laid it out on paper and copied the ribs from the kit, then built a mock up from rib #1 to #7 (one side only) put the gear in the mock up and then built the gear mount to fit, I think I rebuilt the gear mount 3 times befor I got it the way I wanted then I disasembled it and cupied the parts for the kit. I still had to tweek the mounts a bit when I built the wing but I got it close enough for me, and pete had some scale dwg's inlarged and the profileis were vary close.
In the first 100 or so pages there are a lot of good pic's so you might want to just skim through them and note page and post # for referance,it is hard to pass some of the OZ dribble but then you might just be able to add a bit He HE
So you can tell I would recomend the kit as a good place to start
