you will have to hang on to the jug now you are enjoying flying it again.
I spent weekend rebuilding the inner gear doors on the mustang, slow process wating for expoxy to cure enough to start on next step. Been too cold to work at night in the shed of late so has been weekend work only. We had about 5C here overnight which is damn cold for us!!
Bit of luck gear doors might be done over next weekend then I can get back on the P47.

Hi Tom.
i am having trouble tuning my engine since the carb is just inside the cowl and I am having hard time getting it set up due to the vacuum from the prop slipstream.
i am thinking on putting on the elbow that you installed in yours.
is the installation pretty easy? Do you have to re route the throttle cable? does the elbow comes with the necessary parts like insulator, bolts ..etc?
sorry for all the questions but this engine is driving me crazy.

I'm not sure if the insulators came with it or not. I thinkit did. I know I had to modifi them but don't remember why without going back through the threads. I did have to modify the throttle lincage. I actualy moved the servo and made a new bracket for the servo. Went from a rear carb to a side carb. If your already running a G-62 you may not have to. Youll just have to see.

Pic's of your set up might help in getting a good answer.

I am trying to run a g62.
What is happening is the engine has a great idle but at full throttle it dies down or it acts up, no steady at all.
I tried with both the velocity stack just sticking out the cowl and with the velocity stack off.
At full power as it hesitates I can put my hand right BEHIND the cowl opening where the carb is so to slow the slipstream from the prop and the engine works fine, as soon as I remove my hand it starts to act up again.
This all with all kinds of needle adjustments.
So here what I am thinking....easiest thing first. The engine it is years hold and perhaps the carb metering membrane is getting old and does not hold its shape as the prop wash creates a vacuum thus the erratic running at full throttle. I am buying a rebuild kit tomorrow at my local mower shop and I should be able to see if it fix it by the middle of this week.
if this doesn't work than I am forced to use the 90 deg elbow and point the carb toward the back. Hopefully that will fix it.
I do have a dummy engine in the front of the cowl and I will post a couple of pics after I rebuil the carb and see if it run with the cowl on.
Strange to me that Bob has no problem with similar set up but I do. I will not be surprised if the rebuild kit does the trick.

You may also want to try a pressure line ran into the fuse fom the diaphragm. If you don't already have one. Eugen has the V-Stack sticking out of the cowl with the pressure line to the fuse and there is no better running G-62.

lets see if I can post a pic, This is the corsair but I used the same hole pattern on both birds. can't find the 47 pic I think I may have lost it when the H/D crashed last time the round holes are 3/8 & 5/16 hope this helps

I fitted the carb bend to my G62 in the seafury. The conversion kit I got had the insulators with it and yes had to change throttle setup and linkages. Not a big deal. You will need at least an inch clearance from firewall to carby mouth.
agree with Tom, solder a brass tube into the hole on top of the carb where the diaphram breathes and run a tube into the fuselage so it has constant pressure reference. Seafury run very well like that. I also went to a 21x12 prop to get RPM up into the powerband of over 7500rpm.
I then fitted a GT-80 twin!

I'm working on the Jug again. I glued the yellow nirod into the mounting screw holes for the cowl. They seem to be holding tight. In the process of drilling some lightening holes into the led in the balast box. Want to remove 8oz from it. Borowed a friends scale to see how much I'm taking out. Pictures tomorrow. Should be test flying the day after. The weater forcast looks good for now.

good work Tom. no 47 progress as I am rebuilding the inner gear doors on the 51. Doors themsselves have been rebuilt but one has a warp in it so I have it clamped to get the desired curvature I need.
Rehinge is next but have to get longer air cylinders as I moved the control horns out a little to get more leverage but geometry dictates a cyclinder of 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" of stroke. I will run them straight down onto a suitable bracket.
Waiting on new cylinders to arrive as old ones are only 1" of stroke.
Then back to the 47!

You cought me at the right time. It's getting ready to storm and I won't be going out in the shop till it Quits.
Hope this is what you wanted. If I remember corrwectly I had to cut a passage in the insulator block for the pulse line. Check yours to see if the pulse holes line up when you get it.

Excellent job as usual Tom, thanks for the pictures.
One last question......how did you turn the fuel nipple? mine will point in the wrong direction and feels pretty tight to turn with the pliers. Just asking before I mess something up...

I turned it with plyers. I tought mine would break also but didn't. If it broke, I was going to replace it with one from a lawn mower shop. Dont forget to tap on the top of the angle once you turn it. I think it's on a taper so you have to seat it again.

OLD tom is right good broad headed plyers pull a bit and twist, and then tap to reset. Hay Tom nice set up on the carby and goodpic;s.

I forgot to mention but it showed in the picture. The high needle had a roll pin through it for a T handle. I took it out and cut a slot with a cut off wheel for a flat head screw driver. The T handle interfered with the muffler and I couldn't get to it with the cowl on. also had to drill an access hole in the bottom of the cowl. Now it's adjustable with a long screwdriver with the cowl on or off.

Nothing to report today other then the Polar Vortex struck in the middle of July. Went out to the field but once I got out of the Van I knew that the plane was not coming out. I had a jacket with me but I was still cold after I put it on so I came back home. Maybe Thursday.
