RE: CMP Hellcat
Here are some pics of the current progress on the Hellcat. Cut the wing down, I changed the flaps and ailerons, not quite to full scale but improved the looks of the control surfaces. Rudder finished, cockpit finished and fuse painted. I will start glassing the wing next. I need to beef up the retract area and fit larger wheels. I have not made up my mind what I will use for a power plant or retracts. I would like the Lado's, but we all know how that is going. Here are some of my helpers on this plane. I love my kids. Take care, Capt. Winters

RE: CMP Hellcat
It's not that hard, see page 19 post 459. Most have used a band saw but if you had to a sharp knife through the sheeting and then a saw through the spar will work. Save the center rib to glue back on after sanding the cut ends to square them up. The flap and aileron mods are not that hard either. I am using the control mods and hinging on pg 21 post 502,503. I bought all my accesories from Luke, who's ideas are through out this never ending thread.Good luck I will try to post some pictures some time.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Thank you J.R. and LDM. I love when the kids like to spend time with Dad on the weekend building planes. LDM, it is not that hard to do the mods like Raptorboy pointed out. The biggest deal is saying to yourself that you are going to get started , rather than just putting it together and flying. I'm not going as far as some ,but just enough for a little fun building time and the satisfaction when it is complete. My Sundays are for watching football, spending time with the family and working on planes. What else can a guy do? I will post more pics. as the progress continues. Hi Randy, I met you last year at Woodland when you still had your Hellcat. I took pics. of yours and use them for motivation. You did quite the nice job yourself, and thanks for the kind words. Take care, Capt. Winters

Thanks Capt. Yes I remember meeting you and the boys. I have another kit at home maybe someday I will do it again just for fun. I even have a tailwheel built ready to install. I have other projects that have to be finished first. I did do another Hellcat just a bit bigger well a lot bigger. I am just about ready to maiden my Zirolli Hellcat just finsihing up the last of the weathering. Here is a couple of pics of it painted but no weathering done yet. It has been run and Taxied so looks like not much longer.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi Randy, I was watching your build on the other thread, great looking cat, I have the Don Lien Hellcat as well. That Hellcat is more scale than my current project. I will post some pics of that as well. I think any pics of Hellcats are worth seeing. I will put it together this weekend and post the pics. So if you guys have more pics, post away, love looking at different people's projects. Capt. Winters

RE: CMP Hellcat
Well Capt.
Hellcat's are my favorite flying warbirds. They fly rock steady like the real thing.
Here are my small "armada".... (1 Jemco, 2 Byron originals, 3 Cmpro's + 2 YT International still on the bench..)
Cheers J.R.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi Red, Great looking stable of Hellcats you've got there. It is nice to see other people's planes and projects. It looks as though not many people are building this plane at the present. I only have time on the weekends to mess with the plane stuff, so I hope to start glassing the wing soon. I am going to reinforce the retract area this weekend and work on the other elevator. Post pics as I go. Capt. Winters

Hey Cap and rapture boy thanks I will look up that post and page for the details . I know what you mean about getting started lol , I am still on my Fw190 CMP bash , its under warbirds , full interior , air powered canopy with working sliding antena , sierra retracts all around and in the tail ect , major bash similr to the Zolmer Hellcat deal .
I have the zolner interior for the CMP hellcat , the doors and bombs , I was lucky to buy them up when he was still selling them .
Have not heard from Hal Humprhey in a long time , he had come down with cancer a short time after this build on RCU , hope he is doing ok
Cap , been coaching my two boys in ice hockey for years , one just left for scholl and is playing for his college and one is a sophomore in HS . They would build small plastic models next to dad while i was working on my plane . Now my show has all there models on shelves for me to enjoy . Spend every min you can with those kids , your on borrowed time and it goes fast []but its so worth it

John , thanks for sharing that , for those of you who dont know Hal was friendly guy who reached out to many of us accross state lines . He would PM answers to questions in emial and even call long distance to help you figure things outs . We were bashing the wills hobby seafury at the same time and he really helped me out with that plane .If you scrull thru this post hal was very on par with Dion and has work was excellant .
I had learned that he was suffering from Cancer and was unable to go down the stairs in his shop but continued to tinker in his upstairs area on any type of model he could .
I last contacted him was doing better then we lost touch , I am very sorry to hear about Hal and thank you again John for letting me know .
I will say a prayer for him and his family

It is always a big loss for the airmodeling community to suffer when a quality man passes away.
Gentlemen accept my condolences as well.....

RE: CMP Hellcat
I have been reading this post for a couple of years now. After awhile, you look forward to certain guys posting and watching their work as they progress on a project. It is sad to hear of Hals death, I do recall him being ill awhile back. My thoughts go out to his family and I wish them well. Take care, Capt Winters

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hey Guys
Finally got mine done. OS 120, glassed and painted, new panel lines, Luke's detail Kit, and Sierra retracts. I have one run on the engine, so it will probably be spring before I can maiden it. I modeled it after one of my friend uncles plane. He ended up wiyh 3 and 1/2 kills. I did not shorten the wing, kinda wish I had.
