Like many of you, I have been awaiting word on the new P-40 that will be offered by CMP (China Model Productions). The following is what I received yesterday from CMP:
"Dear Dickerson,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
We are making the new P-40 in two sizes - 140 class & 50 class. The new P-40s will come out in April. I will send you the spec. & photos once available.
Would you let me know your location so that I can check the ETA date of your country for the P-40s?
Thanks again for your time.
Best regards,
Jacqueline"
In my followup email, I have requested shipping information and the possibility of a group buy. If you would be interested (depending on price of course), let me know here or via email if you would be interested. If the P-40 is anything like their other offerings, it should prove interesting to say the least. I have participated in group buys in my other hobby (Mustang restoration) and it gives us a chance to purchase something lower than we would normally be able to through a vendor.
let me know...

This is a very tentative "I may be interested in the larger one depending on price" reply. I have several other kits/arfs on the plate at the moment, and it would really depend on price and appearance of the quality.
Edited to add: It would also be compared to the upcoming KMP P-47!

I'd like to see it first but count me in for the larger one. Also, it depends when it will be available. I'm currently waiting word on a new job. If I get it I can expect to deploy to Iraq by the end of April. If it will available soon I could enjoy it before I leave.

CMP will post pictures on their website next week... this is according to Jacqueline's sister.
Also, I was told that the color scheme is same as Richard's Top Flite P-40, the one w/ US Insignia (5-ray star), not the Flying Tiger Insignia. Well, on second thought, if the color is right, I can always replace the decal. I am pretty sure that CMP's P-40 will be a lot more dimensionally correct than the upcoming Hangar 9 offering. For some reason, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Insignia is important to me. Maybe because I'm from there?

I've built the CMP Zero and Folk-Wulf. They certainly look more scale than other OEM's ARF offering of my knowledge. I haven't seen the Mustang 140 in real life. But judging from the picture on CMP website, the paint on CMP ARF's appeals more to me than the plastic film covering on other ARF's. But hey, I am no expert on scale dimension anyway, so I couldn't tell if a fat or thin Mustang is closer to scale. I shouldn't even be speaking on this subject, since I am so into profile fun fly planes. Now, that's real stand-OFF scale.

I am interested but i want to see it first . The ealry feedback from Jackie was the plane would be silver . I just dont want another P40 want a be "plane . I am hoping it has the correct counter balances in the tail and a basic scale outline .
I dont know if the group buy will save us any cash , because there would be multiple ship locations and in-tern a lose of central shipping volume savings .

OK, I see people auctioning these CMP kits on Ebay and RCU. So how did they get their kits? How about someone just becoming a dealer and selling at t fixed price plus shipping. As a group buy you could prepay for the plane and then when they are ready to ship... send the postage. It appears that the shipping from west coast to the east is around $35.00. I checked the website and they do not list a MSRP. The big Zero has been selling for about $225 and a bit more for the spitfire. Beware, there was on seller of the Zeros on ebay that got his auctions yanked for some reason/complaints. So, does one of you have a hobby shop that would be interested in sell the kits for like cost plus maybe 10% ...

Received word back from CMP and the group buy thing is a no-go. I was afraid I would be directed to deal with GSP directly, something Im not inclined to do based on all the negative publicity about them. Following is the email I received from CMP:
"Dear Mr. Dickerson,
The P-40 will be avilable in the US by the end of April through Hobbies & Helis International.
You may visit www.giantscaleplanes.com for more details.
I am afraid that we are not able to sell direct. Currently we already have 3 distributors in the US and we do not prepare to increase the number of them yet.
Thanks again for your time. I will send the photos of P-40 to you once available.
Best regards,
Jacqueline"
The four CMP ARFs I currently have were bought either from Jet Hobbies or Raiden Tech, both of which had excellent turn around. In talking to Raiden Tech, I have discovered they are about 30 minutes from me in El Monte, CA. If everyone here is inclined to do so, I could approach them about the group buy with a discount and ship them direct from here, probably via FEDEX ground which has shown to be the cheapest (and most reliable) shipper. If this is agreeable, let me know and Ill get in direct contact with Raiden Tech...

p.s. the CMP planes you see being auctioned on RCU are from Raiden Tech. one way or another, I WILL get one of those new P-40s

I gotta ask, what is 140 class? I only really relate to wingspan.... what does that relate to? 80 inches or so?
I think their Hellcat and FW190 look cool.
I'd probably buy one of the big birds (big ones always fly better) if it has a nice scale outline. I was kinda waiting for Top Flite to come along with an ARF P-47 but I guess that aint happening.
but seriously, how big is 140 class?
