Can somebody post a pic of the tailwheel steering cables and how they're routed? The stock holes in the former seem pretty wide at F6, and I'm not sure how they "neck down" to a servo arm.
Thanks

hes correct the holes do not line up . Just plan a staight line and they will be fine. you will need to drill a few extra holes in formers

Winston,
Are you still planning on the 1/4 scale build? Let me know. I have asked you several times but haven't gotten a response yet.[&o]

That does help. I've pretty much cut the crap out of the support ply that "had" the holes already in it. I'll replace is with a custom sheet after I get the tailwheel steering lines routed. It looks like once I get the other formers (past F6) in the way will shown....
Thanks

Hear is my 2 pennys worth line drill as best you can to get stright lines and then take some red ny-rod or any plastic tubing you have that goes over the cables loose make theses pieces about 11/2 long and then poxy them in the holes, it make the cables run vary smoooooth and as for the holes in the ply as long as you have 11/2, the dia. from the edge of the hole to the edge of the wood you have not lost any strength. (lite ply) and 1 dia. in ac/ply.
Hope this did not muddy the water for you
Cheers Bob T

Winston,
I've glassed a lot of things but never a wooden airplane model. I have done extensive professional glassing on boats made of wood and other materials for my Fathers Marina. As far as the way it's laying down on the wood and you can see through it I would have to say it looks very good. Not getting resin on the cockpit area was very wise. It will make cutting that section out much easier. As far as the hatches go you shouldn't have any trouble cutting them out with a #11 blade.
Nice work,
Barry

Tim is right. It looks real good and don't rush ANYTHING. I did all of mine with a brush but after seeing yours I'm tempted to try a roller. How long did it take you? Did you have any trouble going around the horiz & vert stabilizer? Looks good, keep up the good work.

Thanks Barry Tim And David .When it turned clear i thought i didnt use enough resin but it looks like i didt it right .Yes about the stabs it was a major pain kept puckering in the corners .David i guess it took me about three hours to get that far most of it was getting the cloth to lie down on the fuse before appling the resin wish i had used epoxie resin insted of polyester .the sig finnishing resin cures too quick imho

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Winston,
Looks good to me also. I would think the difference in the finish texture from the roller instead of a brush would not show in those pics.
1. Anyway was the horiz stab done with a seperate peice of cloth? It would have to be I think.
2. Also why did you not go all the way around the plane? At least down further to keep the seam lower.
3. What kind of filler are you using that has that dark brown color? I assume that is under the glass!
The questions are out of ignorance not critisism! I am just trying to learn as this will be my first glassing also.
I am working on my gear doors and such. Cutting the glass out right now. This part actually has a little pucker factor kinda like the glassing will. You don't want to mess up all that work. Miss glued balsa can be fixed. Fiberglass is a little different!
Regards
D

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
let the first coat dry then cut the extra glass off and lightly sand the edges. Do the bottom and let dry please take your time here. then add a very light coat of resin. when its all set up sand and add spot putty to the entire plane. It will look realy ugly. then sand most of the red oxide away. Do this outside and wear old clothes! add a coat of primer and see what it looks like. It took me 2 weeks of sanding and priming to get my wing to look right. Add panel lines and rivits!
