Cobra
when you read thru the thread did you read ware I cut the iso block in half and this gave me plenty of clearance, but the outher thing is to get one of the 90 deg angles this also give you clearance ( not sure ware to pick one up) a frind of mine got one and it worked out great in his Big P-47. I could check that for if intersted. On the T/F dunny engine it will require a bck fill and support.
hope this helps

Yeah I saw where you did that for the G-62 Bob, so that would only require a hole for the spark plug boot which isn't too bad I suppose.
I already have the Top Flite radial that came with the plane when I bought it - I know there are nicer ones but I'm going to try to use what I have first. I've cut out the ply backing for it, and will try to find some sturdy but not too heavy filling for the hollow cylinders. I thought about spray foam and then shaving it off flush with the back, so that's one idea. Worst case scenario it distorts or breaks the ABS plastic and I order a nicer solid resin radial.
I did just spy on the link you posted the bit about no painting required. Now that is tempting.

Made a little more headway. I feel pretty good about the doors as I have them drawn out, just need to cut the rear doors out oversize and sand down to fit. I'm also nervous about cutting the front doors wrong - too short or too long, or too narrow that the gear can't extend properly. But I have spare glass if I need it already formed up.
I had already lightened my elevators and rudder, took a few minutes last night to shed some weight from the ailerons also. Unfortunately the vertical fin and horizontal stab were already sheeted when I got the plane, so I don't know if any steps were taken to lighten those then they were framed up but I'm guessing not.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hi guys, first off, I'll say that this is my first war bird build. Certainly not my first build, but the first TF warbird.i know that many people have probably asked this in the past, and I've spent hours pouring through past threads looking for an answer, and I just want to get back to building, so the question is, on the corsair 60, I am trying to install the robart 615's, and the gear doesn't even almost fit. I would literally have to remove the entire out board rib right down to the top wing sheeting, and still it looks like it might not fit.i can't raise the other end up as it is already right at the sheeting. I hope I'm wording this well enough for you to picture it. Here are a few pics so maybe you can see what I'm saying. By the way, I'm only using these little axles till I can afford the robo struts. The axles may be part of the issue also, being that I can't shorten them any farther. Thanks in advance for the help. Steve

I started cutting out the gear doors and but am still hung up deciding which hinges to use and how to attach them so I haven't made any progress over the last week, other than getting a couple of other planes ready for a 3D/aerobatic fly-in our club is hosting next weekend.

Hey guys, would any of you happen to know off hand the servo torque recommendations for the TF 60 corsair? I know this is the GS thread, but you never know. Worth a try. Thanks a lot, Steve.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Evening - Has been a while since I was last on here. Took a job overseas so had to pack up and take a break from my build. Looks that I will be back state side come mid June so I am looking at getting my plan of attack together for my build. I only have the back stab done. I have a few question if you all may be able to guide me on what I should / shouldn't do.
1) Would like to have a sliding canopy - Any one have a website to point me to that may have a kit ?
2) Has anyone gone with a larger 5" wheels / any issues with a 5" wheel using the Robart retracs along with retractable doors ?
3) A radial engine is a must for me - just love the look and the sound that some make. - Any thoughts on what company to go with. I like the deep throaty sounding engines.
I guess I will start with these questions. I keep a log of what I would like or what I have ready that others on here have done and it makes me want to hurry up and get out of this sand box and come home.
And lastly a BIG thanks to everyone that has help keep this post alive and going over the years. I think with out this forum many of us lesser experience builders would be lost, or not even take on a build like this.

Good to hear you are safe. on the questions! Due to a H/D crash I have lost a lot of my files, So
The sliding canopy use the index in post ! of the fourm and check old forms hear on RCU 1 by a fellow with a handle of corsairjock, an 1 by diaonesubacks (not sure on the spelling) both were 60 size but the info is applickable.
On the wheels on mine the bigest I could get to fit was 43/4, But if you mode the gear mounting rails a bit to move the gera right up to the L/E it might be possable.
About the redial the little mokie I think will fit or the new gas 3 cyl Saieto again spelling

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
rt32323 - I appreciate your help and insight. I will look into the mokie as well as the 3cy Saieto. From looking at some you tube videos I like the sound of the radials when they fly by. Just want to create a different sound on the field when I get this bird up in the sky. I think I will play around and see how I can modify the wing to accommodate for a larger wheel as well as take a look at the 43/4 and see how that may look.
I am not planning to go all out and try making everything to scale, but I figure that I should try and play with wheel size and wing incidences to help with the finished look.
Have been taking down notes from the forum on the sliding canopy, and looks that I may have to build from scratch, was hoping for a kit, but I guess I am up for a good challenge if need be.
Always open to thought as I admit that it has been 10+ years since my last build, but I am taking the build slow and asking questions as I go. Hopefully with patience and help from this forum and a few others I will come out with something that resembles a F4U.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Ok so I need some help if you all can help me out.
I came across www.IFlyTailies.com and spoke with Alex through e-mail. He is working on making a scale Cockpit set that will have the instrument panel, seat, control stick, harness, gun sight, and side panels. It will be 1/5 scale - however he will have custom fit panels on request. The complete kit will not be made available for about two months, but you can buy everything individually, with the exception of the side panels - these it sounds like will be part of the set.
My question is, can someone give me the dimensions of the panel in the cockpit so I can let him know what our kit dimensions are ? I am deployed tell the first of June and unable to find out the measurements myself. Attached are the dimensions that he has in the works for the 1/5 scale.
Appreciate your help, and as soon as I can get my set will post pictures so you all can see the detail that is put into these cockpits.

Hi,
At the bottom of this dialogue box there is a section that says "Click here to upload images and files!"
Click on the link, - Wait till the upload box opens (it will have 'Browse' for the image) then search your computer for the pictures, you can upload about 6 or 8 pictures, make sure they are under about 250kb otherwise they take forever to load and they are too big for the forum to read properly.
Good luck
