Default Down trim on a p51

I built a chinese clone of the Hanger Nine 60 size p51. It flies very well but we are nagged with a need for a lot of down trim and nose over landings. I have an Idea that avoids carving the fuse to change the wing angle. the solution seems to be to trim away the fuse from zero forwarf to about 1/4 inch at the trailing edge. Lots of work. What do you guys think of this. I fasten a piece of aileron stock 1 1/4 inch wide from the end of the aileron to the fuse on the underside of the wing with the thin part sanded flush and the 1/4 inch thick side at the trailing edge. either that or make the elevators larger which would look bad. I have a super tigre 90 in it.

How about tilting the engine for some down thrust?

The real thing (the H9 version) is the same way so they really must have cloned it well.

I did the down tilt of the engine with two washers behind each of the top motor mount screws. My Guru who has been flying it said that helped but the only solution is change the angle of incedence of the wing or fly it the way it is. I guess I will try to get more throw on the elevators with the linkage.

I lowered the leading edge of the wing down by maybe 1/32", and my plane requires very little down trim, around 1/32" of down elevator, to fly level at full throttle.

tell me how you lowered it please. did you make a filler for the fuse/wing area or maybe just weather strip foam?

You can do it either way. I installed wooden dowls at the front center section of the wing so the fuse would rest on those dowels instead of the top of the wing (I do this to most ARF's). You can see a slight gap between the fuse and the top of the wing in this picture:

The gap might have been 1/16" and not 1/32" as mentioned earlier.

At full throttle, note there is very little down elevator deflection:

Thank you very much. I will proceed with this solution. Much better than carving up the fuse to raise the trailing edge.

I did a temporary shim and tack glued it to the wing to see if it was the correct amount. if all is well I will remove the shim and put a balsa buildup on the fuse and cover it so the wing will be down and the gap will be sealed.

The designer over did it. The wing already has a high coefficient of lift, so there is no need to give it additional angle of attack

This may sound odd, but make sure the elevator servo is secure in the servo tray. Good luck.
