Hey Dave! Love the F84. What's the scoop on it? Turbine? Where'd you get it? I'm partial to the 50's jets.

Hi Tim:
Thank you. Yes its turbine. It is a kit from the Phantasy in Blue group that is supported by the
swiss airforce. Almost ready for her test flight.

Take care, Dave

I'm afraid I don't understand, could you explain further? The Corsair you pictured is F4U-7 "Blue Max", Bureau # 133693, which was crashed and destroyed near San Diego, CA in 1987 claiming the life of owner Bob Guilford. If you restored this bird then it required substantially more than a new fire wall and avionics. A full history, incuding the same picture you posted, can be found here:
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/corsa...4u-133693.html

Also, there was no F4U-2A version of the Corsair. There was an F4U-2, a night fighter development of the F4U-1, but only 34 were ever converted. There are no known surviving -2 Corsairs.

This is my little Corsair. It's a Kyosho Corsair with os46fx engine and hobico retracts. Looking forward to build and finish my TF GS F4U with os 5cyl. radial

Hi Tim.

We're still able to buy Kyosho warbirds in Denmark. Maybe I should buy another one
when I'm still able. I think it's quite easy to make another paint scheme for it and to
glass the outer wings for a better joint and paint.

I WAS DOING RESEARCH FOR A BOOK AND FOUND THIS ENTRY: IT ISN'T CORRECT AND I CAN CLARIFY THIS PARTICULAR AIRCRAFT'S HISTORY.
I PURCHASED IT FROM THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT IN 1964 AFTER ITS RETIREMENT FROM FRENCH SERVICE. THE AMERICAN NAVY TRANSPORTED IT FROM ROTA SPAIN TO NORFOLK WHERE IT WAS STORED UNTIL 1966 WHEN AL REDICK WENT AND GOT IT READY FOR A FERRY FLIGHT TO CALIFORNIA WHERE I HAD CREATED THE AMERICAN AEROSPACE MUSEUM. THE MARINES DID ALL OF THE OVERHAUL WORK FOR US AND PAINTED THE AIRCRAFT. I CHOSE THE FAA REGISTRATION - N693M - TO RECOGNIZE THE SUPPORT GIVEN BY THE MARINES AND THE NAVY.
REDICK FLEW THE AIRCRAFT TO VOUGHT AERONATICS WHERE I WAS WAITING. DURING THE STAY 693 WAS FLOWN BY STU MADISON, LTV'S CHIEF TEST PILOT, AND PAUL THAYER, CORPORATE PRESIDENT. I WAS GOING TO DO A BOB HOOVER ACT FOR LTV BUT IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE CORSAIR WAS NO AS FORGIVING AS THE MUSTANG.
I FLEW THE AIRCRAFT IN A NUMBER OF SHOWS AROUND THE STATES BEFORE GOING TO IRELAND WHERE I OWNED A WW ONE AIRFIELD WITH ALL OF THE BLUE MAX EQUIPMENT AND AIRCRAFT. THIS IS WHY THE CORSAIR WAS NAMED 'THE BLUE MAX.' WHILE I WAS IN IRELAND I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN 1970 FILM PRODUCTION - THE RED BARON, AND WAS REPORTED KILLED. ROBERT E. GUILFORD TRANSFERRED THE AIRCRAFT INTO HIS NAME.
GUILFORD AS NOT KILLED IN SAN DIEGO. IT WAS MARSHALL MOSS.

Thanks for the clarification on this. Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall reading somewhere (Air Classics I'm sure) that it was Moss and not Guilford killed in the accident. I also seem to recall that I'm not the first to erroneously put Guilford in the cockpit on that fateful day! Whatever subject you are researching, if it concerns warbirds, I would recommend that you visit www.warbirdinformationexchange.org. A really great bunch of warbird fanatics over there who are rarely stumped. I'm sure they would be glad to help if they can and I know they would love to hear of your association with the Corsair and other historic aircraft. Regards, Chad Veich.

Hey Troels! It might be a good idea to by a couple of extra cowls for sure, for spares. Can't get spares over here anymore either.

My fleet of flying condition 1/8 scale Corsair now stands at 3, with the completion of this one. It is a Top Flite, with 'red box' fuselage mated to a repaired (former #167/ Bunker Hill/ Roger Hendrick) Gold Edition Corsair wing.
A YS .63 is neatly almost hidden in the cowl, all three wheels retract, operational flaps, 2 Vortac bomb drops. All up weight (minu 'ordinance') is under 9 lbs.

Scheme is of Lt. Cdr. Herman Hansen's U.S.S. Bennington based F4U-1D

Maybe in few days, I can take a group photo of all 3. Better yet, locate some good pilots and get a photo of all 3 in the air, doing a missing man fly-by

Here's a picture of my Hangar 9, which is fitted with a Magnum 120 swinging a 14x7 master Airscrew three blade. I'm still looking for a suitable pilot although I am using a substitute until I get the one I want.

Is there anyone that has the build instructions for the Pica Corsair 1/8. I have acquired the bird partly built, and no instructions. I would like to find a copy or someone that no longer needs there plans.

Thanks Bill

Just another Top Flight giant scale Corsair.

Recently completed. Had about 10 successful flights so far.

31.5 pounds
86.5" wing span
3W 75iUS engine with 24X10 propeller.
Functional landing gear doors.
Functional flaps.
Robart 148 main landing gear and tail wheel.
Futaba metal gear high torque servos.
Glassed and painted.
Full figure pilot.
Top flight cockpit.

Please excuse the quality of the pictures taken in the field, as they were captured from a video.

Enjoy,

Onewing
