RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
JL , the pic that Kurt posted is the exact look that I was describing . I agree that cutting the fuse would be major work , that is why you can try (with no loss) the following .
1)attach your canopy as you have
2)Take clear acetate and place it in the correct position over your fuse and make sure over your existing canopy
3)hold the acetate tight and trace the scale lines needed
4)cut the acetate and see how the fit would be with your hand
5)trial -clear tape the new rear canopy to your existing canopy .
6)If the fit and look is more scale(and it suits you ) you can glue the new piece to you existing canopy and then paint it

RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
no problem at all JL , I have been working on a Balsa Product P40 , cheapy ebay project that is finally starting to take shape .
MY Fw kit is coming directly from China , it was mailed last friday , so I am hopeing it not a slow -boat !!!
As soon as I get it I will post some pics .
Just about to start and finish the entire P40 post in one big shot of pics.
Paid $95 plus shipping for the P40 , seems worth it now .
The Fw190 was more pricey but the flaps are split , and retracts installed , probably have to ditch the retracts .
JL you can get the clear plastic at from water bottle jugs , or local hobby /craft stores

KURT or LDM, I was looking at the details of tiketec's kitbash of the cmp 190 and how he split the flaps on a foam core wing is it the same on a built up wing and if not where do I start.I have never split flaps.By the way I am going to do the alteration to the canopy.ssssssssssSee how you guys are,you plant the idea and it grows!!!

RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
JL , I think you took the covering off , so the flaps are easy . What I dont know is the scale details , I dont know if the FW flaps bottom portion sits flat with the top non moveing part of the wing or if it settles inside a lip at the trailing edge of the top of the wing .
Example the P40 flaps sit flat when closed againt the top portion of the wing , while other flaps sit flat but inside a lip that is the trailing edge of the top of the wing .
Either way I usually build an extenstion onto the top portion of the wing first , then I try to build the flap as scale as possible with inside detail and supporting ribs (if applicable ) .
I build my hindges into the flap so that attaching them to the wing is easy , you must trial fit the moveing portion of the flap so that its 100% flat when in close position . It should equal too and not be greater then the airleron in width or it will effect trim .
Look at the "ebay Seafury Post I did showing the Fliteskin flaps and how they appear open when deployed .
Great article in Scale Rc a few months ago about Flaps , there is an ok one this month in MAN mag .

RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
LDM and JL,
you guys are the "geeks of modeling". You guys have too much time on your hands......LOL. I am just glad to get this thing flying somehow. I am not too worried about the canopy sliding open or split flaps. It sure looks great, but I do not have the time or skill or tools to tackle that.
BTW has any of you seen this:

What do you think about this? It is made by Haikong, so I was told. Quite pricey for a China model.
Cheers,

Hey LDM This is a novice teetering on stupid queston. Now that I am about to get started are the flaps only deployed down or are they soppost to go both directions???I know that real flaps can only go down airliners,
cessna 340's every other plane but a model???and since I am a novice flyer am I going to loose anything by going scale???

TDIFAN,When you are modeling military the more realistic the more satisfaction. My background is all military scenes with a vehical or a plane with figures snapshoted frozen in time like a real picture from ww2.My dad and myself used to build and enter contest with halftracs, tanks scenes from battles.Scale modeling is an addiction!!!That Me 109 looks good I went through all the pics but i didnt see who was the mfg.You said it was a china model wich one???and as far as price when I bought my will hobby there were people paying that or a little more for the same plane as mine.

Jl, more kodos to you, I do admire the realism you are achieving with your builds. We have 1 or 2 guys at our field who are into scale and nothin but scale down to the rivets. Amazing work that is. i have seen few of the static pics and they look very "real" and are well done.
The 109 model is made by Haikong. This is the only 109 ARF in that size that I know about. It looks decent, but not scale of course. I might have to bite the bullet.....
Enjoy your holidays,
Andreas

tdi . dont buy that one , I found that plane about 6 months ago . I was 100% buying it , after project #15677lol ,
so I watch another guy buy it and apparently he flew it at top gun just for fun .
The tail area tore off in a slow fly by with no real pressure or load
FYI ,my time is actually so limited , I only bash ARFs but will soon try building once again .
LOve the detail part of the hobby .
JL , flaps go down and then return back to the original position .IN this case they do not exceed there starting point when they return so --you can say they move in one direction for deploymenet and return back -not like your airlerons that move both up and down .
I dont want to confuse you , but for those that will say "what the " lol flaps can extend out then down as they deploy adding lift to the wing area -tons of differant types of flaps , in your case keep it simple -down !!! then back to zero position .

You are awsome man thanksI just recieved my Aces Of Iron 1/5 scale german pilot. This thing is so detaild that you can see parts of the stiching and the zipper teeth and the rivets on the leather. The cockpit that should of been here was held up by jack frost the resin they use froze and went bad. They had to order a whole new batch.I will post pic of unfinished pilot tonight.

RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
Well I did it .I started the flaps by cutting away the 1/8 sheeting then I had to sand the inside of the wing 1/8thdown and a 1/4in to give the new sheeting its contuer.

RE: WILLHOBBY FW 190 Build
Well guys here we are.The wood has been epoxyd in place and epoxy and micro baloons was used to fill any gaps. The flaps I sanded down a little at a time I must have trile fit and sanded at least 20 times to get the fit I wanted. There is going to be a little gap between the wing and the flaps about an 1/8th but I like it it looks more real. Here are some pics.

LDM or STURTZ,Do you guys put your wings together without the servo extentions and the other stuff or do you set everthing up first???
