Congratulations on a successful test flight. It sure feels good to get the first one out of the way.

Thanks Bentwings,

Really chuffed everything aok. Still cant believe how well she flies at such a heavy weigtht. Really inspired me now to build the Ziroli 1/5 scale p47 and really go to town on it.

Cheers,

Frank

You will love the Z- P-47. It's huge and flies great. It would be nice to use a 4.2 or 5.8 cu in motor. The Zenoah 80 twin would be a natural. I may even put one in the new Corsair.

A true scale exhaust might be difficult but I have seen one with a short stack out each side of the cowl right in the lower cowl flaps. Not sure what version this might be but it sure looked cool. Sometimes scale features that really are not scale just have the 'right ' look. It's about illusion...if it looks scale then the illusion says it is scale. haha

Better start planting the balsa forrest. haha. Order about 1/3 more wood than you think you need in your wildest dream.

Think about adding the 'shrinking' gear struts. They would give it that nice bulldog look and still be able to retract correctly.

Have a good summer flying.

Hey Selleri,
How are the glaciers doing??? Hope they are not in as bad shape as our economy. haha It's not worth a wooden nickle as we say in the West. haha

How's the weather there??

It's really fun to hear from other parts of the world.

There were over 20 guys out day before yesterday and 2 jets. Dang those jets are cool. F-15 and F-18 They were everyday flyers and look like TopGun planes.

Well done Frank.........great when it all comes together. Did you need to add any ballast in the end?

Hello Glycol,

Yes, it needed a good lump of lead, approx 1/4lb. Really suprised at this due to the heaviness of the motor and the dome nut. I do like to balance em well forward thought. Ziroli says 4 to 4.5 back from leading edge of wing, i did mine at 4 to be on the safe side. It flies beatiful with the Z38 and i thoroughly recommend it. Next outing will get some flying pics.

Cheers,

Frank.

Thanks Frank, may well change my mind on the Z26 and go for the heavier option. Just good to know shes a delight to fly at the weight.

Hello all,

I have a question regarding prop sizes on the Z38. Im currently using a 19x8 Menz and it dosent appear to be a good combination. Once in the air its fine, but it struggles to pull it off the deck. Somebody has suggested using a 20x8, what do you guys think?

thanks,

Frank.

Just a update, P47 going well, not really any problems at all. Had a few issues with the engine and the throttle but just about sorted em now. Engine gets better the more its used and have weakened the oil mixture from what is advised in the manual. It has now had approx 14 flights of about 10 mins each and flies like its on rails. Landings are not to bad as long as you keep up good airspeed and a long approach.

Decided im going to start the Ziroli 1/5 scale this winter and fit it with a DA 85, all parts are ordered so i will make a short thread when i start to build.

All the best,

Frank.

A further update with the P47.

Model going well with approximitly 50 flights on it now. Zenoha 38 has really broke in now and producing 7300rpm on a 18x8 master airscrew. Petrol mixture has been altered to 40/1oil mix instead of 50/1.

Model will do any manurve you ask and is super to land once the weight issues are taken into account.

I currently have a problem with the cowl fastening screws vibrating loose cosistantly. After 4 or 5 flights, the cowl has vibrated so much that flying as to cease. I have used the traditional method of installing small screws mounted into hardwood blocks with nyrod, but as you can see in the pics, its just no good. All my other models use this method and have reached 500+ flights without any failure. Has anyone any advice or suggestions???

Thankyou,

Frank.

washers with rubber backing, or rubber washers with steel washers combined. Second to reinforce the fiber on the cowl with some hard plastic. Credit cards work well, cut into pieces 1x1 inch. 80 grit sandpaper the rough the CC and cowl - use epoxy or thick CA to apply.
One thing more - most of these vibrations come form the propeller. Every propeller has to be balanced (the tips AND the hub!).

With a balanced prop you keep the bold in the airframe though.

Happy landings

Here is a nut system I use on my streetrod and I have used them on large models.

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...anchornuts.php

Go to aicraft spruce and look under "nuts".

Thanks to you guys I have now sorted the cowl vibration issues. I have used a combination of rubber and hardwood mounts which work super.

I have a short video, there will be more to come,

Thanks for all the help throughout.

I have a Ziroli P-47 with the G-38 as well. I have not flown it for about one year, but hope to get it out more often this year.

Frank, great looking warbirds.

I have a couple questions about your P-47. I have been flying with the CG in the middle of the range on the plans. It has flown well at this point, but wondered where your CG is located?

I have 20 and 40 degrees of flaps. I have only landed it with 20 degrees. Have you used the 40 degrees of flaps.

Ekir,

I have always flown mine with the c/g on the nail according to the plans. I think I recall it being 4.5" from the leading edge. I find it spot on, no problems.
I either use full flap, set at 40 degrees or no flaps at all. The model lands equally as good at either. When full flap is applied, a slight pitch up is noticable, so a touch of down ele as been programmend in. The model lands just as good without any flap at all, just a little faster thats all.

regards,

frank
