RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
Ok guys..........some more progress........yes I know ..........slow compared with my Spit build
Inner flaps and servos installed
Servos for gear doors positioned (yes I am going the servo option rather than air)
Now installed the shear webbing into the outwing panels, these are screwed to the bench and an incidence meter used to set the 2 deg of washout
Stay tuned

More pics........incidence meters used to set -2 deg washout from inner rib to tip.
The sheer webbing and trailing edge was then installed to hold washout.............this will be rechecked again when the top sheeting is installed

Al,
when you join your outer panels to the centre section think about beefing up that join. On the seafury which is essentially same wing it is marginal in that area. Food for thought.
See attached pics.
cheers

Thanks Pete.............yes I agree it did look a bit light on for strength so I'll be beefing it up and layering some carbon cloth top and bottom as well

RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
Hi Guys
I little more progress on the Tempest wing
First outer panel installed and control surfaces finished , as you have recommended Pete, I'll be adding some extra "reo" at the panel join and laminating some Carbon Fibre cloth top and bottom............I don't want too much flex in the wings and at 45 lubs I don't want the wing to snap when the beast is lifted from the wing tips !!! [X(]
Damn cars are getting in the way of my build !
Stay tuned
Al.

yeah well i have to say th hot looking ones are too much high maintenance for my liking, never happy and just complain all the time then break your balls over nothing. I'd rather be on my own and not put up with that crap to be honest.
In a new very demanding job and it is full on, brain needs to be switched on and focused here, not on what ever drama the skirt is playing out in her blonde head.
Yeah she is good to look at and dolls herself up like a model but man life has got to be easier then this!

Pete..............I could not agree more.
After copping my fair share of "Glamour Grief" many years ago.........I decided that "there is no shame in going plain" when it comes to women.............far less hassle and chaeper to run
More time for playing with model aeroplanes (and racing cars and sailing boats)

Well Pete sometimes you just have to make the though decision. I lived by myself for a long time and raised my kids just for that very same reason. Once when I wasn't looking a lady now my wife asked me to a basketball game. Got me drunk afterwards, Took advantage of me and we have been together ever since. 16yrs and she told me to get back into modeling and never gives me any grief. I think there is a good chance that there is another one out there somewhere.
Going to a big warbird meet this weekend in Muncie Indiana. The P-47 is going to fly. See I got my priorities straight.[sm=shades_smile.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]

yeah mate I know. That is a lovely story of yours. Happy endings do take place. Think my mix of English and Hungarian blood makes me too cranky for most to put up with and that makes them ornery or stroppy as we call it.
This is sure not working out for either of us but we can't quite get to the point where we walk away.
Sometimes she is ok with the modelling then other times she winges about nothing, like me leaving the fluros on! My workshop, if I want to leave the lights on I will - grrr then other times she surprises me like now just bought me a cup of tea. Go figure, I cant work em out.
Say does your mrs have a twin?
Best of luck with the 47 .
No work on my 47 but have been busy giving the Seafury a good going over in prep for the converted G62. Found quite a few little problems to take care of so just as well I gave her agood look over. Have to say I really like flying it.
Back to work again tomorrow, man I wish I could win lotto, quit work, open a little hobby shop, open say 3 days a week and build a place on the beach, waste my time building planes. Sigghhhhhh
Man has got to have dreams.
sorry Al, hijacked your thread with my tale of woe.

RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
No stress Pete...........we all have an axe to grind some time
My bub is now six months old and has got here first bad cold and an eye infection to boot (thanks to child care[:'(]).............so not getting much sleep and no time for much shed work.
Not a lot of movement on the Tempest wing, I am working on the second outer wing panel which is now top sheeted and the aileron constructed, now building the inner flap and servo mounts etc........but the hinging system I choose is time consuming[>:]
After the second outer panel is complete, I can then fix it to the wing structure .................I'll then build a jig to ensure the washout is spot on when the bottom is sheeted
Anyway- slowly, slowly
Stay tuned for more pics.

Ok guys afew more pics of the progress to date, a project milestone was reached with the second outer wing panel attached to the main structure............yeahah!
The u/c bearers were installed and boxed in to reinforce the area and I have added a amall carbon spar behind the leading edge bridging the join of the inner and outer panels .
I'll add some more triangle reinforcements around the join and then skin the sheet woth Carbon Fibre cloth
Alan

The beast is looking more like an aeroplane again !
I am not happy with the rudder I build a year agao so I'll frame up another..........this time I'll build it clam shell style with two halves glued together, the method of conmstruction in the plan can create warps in the structure ..............so I will build it my may this time.

A little more progress
I've been working on the flaps sheeting the flap bay and getting the spacing right and the throws even, a lot of messing around , now woring on the trailing edge curve.
Pete did you mention that the Sea Fury only needs 35 deg of flap ?...............which is essentially the same wing as the Tempest.
Almost ready to sheet the bottom of the wing.............yeahah progress !

Hi Alan, looking good bro. I love the shape of that wing. When will you sheet the bottom of that wing? I contemplated buying a model design sea fury but thought that I have got enough big warbird still in boxes that I should finish them first. Catch you soon somewhere. Cheers Trent.

yup all I use is 35 degrees, any more and it masks the stab/elev causing to be very unstable in the landing approach, nearly lost it first flight because of that. At 35 it is a delight to land

Alan,
Hello from California. Just stumbled across your great build. You will love this airplane!!! I'm going to post some motivational video for you of my Vailly Tempest V. She's 46 lbs with 6 lbs of lead in the nose...! I too opted to use the Typhoon landing gear and save a few bucks...
Keep up the good work!
Danny

Another with Chris Spangenberg's Vailly Typhoon, which is about as nice a scale model as you will ever see (no really)!!!

HEY , in down under. your build looks great . THE TEMPEST is probably my favorite airplane , along with the TYPHOON.
id luv to build the SEPP UBEIRLACHER Tempest someday . The VAILLY is just way out of my range, but its a beautiful kit.

Hey Danny......Sensational Tempest !
That had me re-inspired over the weekend so I spent a few hours in the shed
I now have the inner wing section sheeted and the wheel wells cut out and ready to sheet the outer wing panels, I also started on the formers for the belly pan.
I need to make a new wing tip jig to ensure I get the 2 deg of wash out when I sheet the bottom side.
Hmm need to restock the lumber supply.............this thing eats balsa !
