RE: TBM 93
I don't think everyone is using the recommended C.G. Mine balances on the spar where the outerwing panels slide together. It flies great there. I have G-62 no lead ballast.

Hello, It sure seems the balance of this plane is varying quite a bit. We now have no weight needed to
4.5 lbs. needed with a DA 85 up front. I wonder if it could be different thicknesses of fiber glass being
laid up on the fuselage. Does every one have the long nose version?
cheers

Mine balances right on the wing spar with no ballast needed. If anything, slightly nose heavy

Look me up in the Team Vegas tent.
Look me up in the Team Vegas tent.
there so I did get to see you fly,, Very nice. How did you like the radio set up with the
air boss. I got a little flack for doing a very low pass with out commo as our radio was
dead. Run way was clear. I had a great talk with the guy that had a DLE 111 in his
about the tail wheel. He gave up and installed a robart. I this one yours? The last pic is the
one with the DLE 111 of course. You might remember him flying with the gear down as one of his
was not going up all the way. He was going to clean out the cylinder later on.
Looks like I was 3 feet from you but you were busy. did not want to bother you.
Cheers Tim

RE: TBM 93
I have a damaged Zero and am looking for recommendations on how to make repairs. I have the wood and sheeting replaced but would appreciate views on how to cover the repaired area and make it blend in with the undamaged covering. The area that was repaired is on the center wing section next to the where the wing tip slides in. Thanks for any help

I haven't had to do it yet, but I think I would cover the balsa with 3/4 oz or 1/2 oz fibreglass and resin, feather sand it in to the undamaged area. The hardest part might be matching paint. On my green version I think using a latex from Home Depot type store can be mixed to pretty closely match. I weathered my Zero, so some additional weathering would probably take care of the differences. Warbirds do get patched in the field, so a show room finish isn't a worry.

RE: TBM 93
The C.G. on this TBM Zero is still not clear to me. Some threads are stating 4.5" and some threads are stating 6" or where the outer wings joiners plugs into the center wing section. I'm not sure which one to use. My TBM Zero is 92" but I believe I have the extended nose version to counter the weight issue with this plane. I ordered it late 2009. I'm powering it with my old reliable G-62 with the spring starter. I'm leaning towards the 6" CG where the outer wings plugs into the center wing. Sure would like to know before my maiden. Never have to deal with anything like this before and getting no response from TBM other than what's in the manual. This CG issue is making me a little nervous.

RE: TBM 93
I have been following this thread from the beginning. your not the first to wonder about correct C.G. I have the same engine set up as you do. My C.G. is forward of the wing joiner spar. The 6" mark isn't too nose heavy. So play it safe and start there. This plane flies great, lands slow. hope this helps

Mine took 4.5 lbs to balance . It flys great. The best way to be sure it's balanced where you want is to use this : http://adamone.rchomepage.com/cg_calc.htm

RE: TBM 93
Thought I share some pics of my TBM Zero. Its about 95% done. Still needs to balance and clear coat the Zero. I just wish the weather here in the NW would cooperate so I can clear coat the Zero and get some outdoor's picture. I'll probably bring it to the NW expo for static display so all the experts can bashed it...LOL.

RE: TBM 93
Happy to report a successful maiden flight! I was just going to do a high speed taxi test, but the tail wheel came up and she was light and stable within a hundred feet so I said what the heck. With a few of clicks of trim, she was flying like it was on rail. As mentioned on previous posts, the Zero flight characteristic is excellent. The G62 is more than enough. Didn't even use the flaps on the first landing, because of its large wing surface, she floats to a soft landing. Very happy with the maiden flight. The second flight was done with the external center line fuel tank attached. It has no effects at all on the flight characteristic. Definitely a keeper. I want to thanks you guys here on this post for helping me out on the CG. My CG was on the main wing spar. With the G62 (with the spring starter) I didn't have to add any ballast to the plane. Was too happy about the maiden and forgot to take some pics. Some of the club members took some in-flight pics and when I get them I'll post it here. Thanks again for the help.
