Yeah its not bad... I need to fly before the season is over!
Check it out mate... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_99...tm.htm#9942126
I'm laying down some aluminium on the Corsair this week, just in the areas that will be weathered.
Cheers!

RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
Ok, it's been a long time since my last post but I am happy to report that on the 4th flight after much trials and tribulations, the corsair flew like a dream. The last 3 flights were all successful if either somewhat wild during the flight or problematic with the landing that I never considered them successful.
Each event required major rework to get her air worthy again. This one had a mis-start as the grass was a bit high and she tripped on the first take off run, then on the second she simply lifted off and soared into the air. With help from one of the other pilots, got her trimmed out perfectly.
Keeping the gear down for stability & just over 1/2 throttle, we completed a few loops around the field and a couple of figure eights to test the stability with the steady wind we had blowing from the south east, all was fine. First flight was just under 4 minutes, lined up for a fast, smooth descent and easy touch down with a long roll, then at the almost stop point she nosed over onto her back.
Minor fin and rudder damage, that 15 minute epoxy and a couple of CF strips fixed..... Checking the 6 cell, 5000mAh, 25C battery, we were at 23.9V, I like to fly down to the 3.6V per cell level and then land, that would have taken me down to 21.8V, meant I could have flown for easily 9 or 10 minutes..........
Now to get a few more flights in and then work on the flaps and the missile/drop tank upgrades.

Congratulations Dangaras...
Very satisfying to have it flying at long last, I'm sure.
Did it flip over because of the landing gear balls popping off or something else?
Cheers

RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
Yes it was, thanx.
The flip was caused by high landing speed, rutty ground, taller than fresh mowed grass & maybe not enough "up" elevator all the way to the stop.
I have noticed even before that she likes to drop her nose when taxiing on the grass runway...
Too much rain here today for me to go back out again. I will have to try to get out one evening after Tuesday (mowing day).

Hey Goose,
Just to let you know I flew the Flybarless 6HV on the weekend, more fine tuning to do but can see its going to be a fantastic heli for the wolf. The day wasnt perfect - showers and high winds so hope the weather improves for this weekend so I can get stuck in with the setup. Im sick of the rain!!![:@]

Gidday mate...
Excellent!
If you get a break in the weather, you should have it sorted by the time the scale body is done... keep at it!
I practically finished my Ultimate in a week and as suspected, it doesn't fit in my car... its a full 250-300mm longer than the last one!
So I am scrambling to build a carrier for the car. Hope to have it done this week in time for a maiden on the weekend.
Thats if the weather here co-operates of course...
Cheers!

RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
Goose,
This Saturday the Toronto club had an fun fly day & my corsair flew well but the left gear strut snapped right at the coil on landing, nasty belly spin on landing. Lucky for me I had a spare strut from a predecessor. Horizon wants them shipped back for inspection, no warranty just inspection. With all the issues I don't think it is worth the effort.
I am experiencing strange behaviour with my reworked pair, the wheels when they are extended will over rotate so they point out towards the wing tips or they rotate inward and get pigeon toed. Needless to say this has caused a serious roll over issue. I have done some ball-link adjustments to try to hold them steady but I am not terribly impressed.
I assume you are going with retracts other than stock? Would you consider parting with your stock pair if you are not using them if the price is right?

Hi Dangaras...
Yes I am installing replacement struts in my Corsair... I have a set of CJM's (air) that have worked flawlessly for several seasons and on my previous Corsair.
As for the supplied struts, No I can't even give them to you my friend... I wasn't kidding when I posted [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8459393]this picture[/link] (middle one) in my thread...
Sorry.
I highly recommend replacing them with quality gear. The amount of time, money and frustration you will save in the long run is significant.
Cheers

Bad weather is already here. There are few and far between good days left before it gets down to the really hardy few that can fly with blue fingers or when using skis instead of wheels is necessary.

Gidday mate....
Well as Dang said, the crap weather is already here although I did spend 3 hours on the Ultimate on Saturday trying to get a reliable run out of it.
I ended up building a carb from two to eliminate the issue but the weather closed in for Sunday so I didn't get a chance to see if it was worth it.
Thanks for the link, will check it out.
The Corsair project has been stalled while summer was here and I was supposed to be flying but it will back soon.
Good on ya mate.

Happy New year mate, I started the year as I mean to go on - with a fly on new years day. The wolf is all sorted now, thought you might be interested on how she flys.
Cheers mate catch up soon.

RE: Goose's H9 F4U Corsair ARF bash
Nearly a month has passed and while I have been busy, I have been negligent in keeping you informed about progress.
I was not too subtly reminded yesterday whilst visiting the field, thanks for that.
So I was hoping to have some colour on it but as with most scale projects, its the little bits and pieces that take all the time and thats what I have been doing.
I did complete the masking job today and will be spraying paint this week.
Pictures:
1: Ran into a problem with the inboard flaps not being able to go down due to the angle of the root rib. Careful grinding with the Dremel fixed it.
2: Fixed.
3: I could now add the inboard flap extensions and shape them to allow the flaps to be in the correct place when up and go down the required amount. Shaped, glassed and sanded after this pic.
4: Masking is complete and I have decided to spray it with the doors on as it was too hard to mask off the bays. Lots of small parts in the background.
Cheers

There comes a time in every model when you just have to say 'enough!' and start laying down some paint...

Finally getting somewhere. Iguess the plan is to fly this summer? If only I had a great workspace like that Imight be tempted to do more involved bashes. Right now I am trying to get all of my other never ending projects complete in a tiny, crowded basement room.
Most of my ongoing projects are now related to panel lines & weathering....

Been getting somewhere, but all the little bits and pieces, so not much to show but I'm hoping it will make a difference on the flightline.
Yes, I want to fly it this year, said the same thing last year but thats how it goes
I am lucky to have space for my man-cave for sure... one of the few pleasures of owning your own house.
Fire in some pics of your panel lines and weathering, I could do with some inspiration.
Cheers and good luck.
