I was delighted to have the postman bring me the nicely packed and insured box from Down & Locked today. I finally got my first look at their handy work, and I must say, it looks very good. Here is the newly converted gear, and their sequencer with a handy hand held programmer.

This is their sequencer with it's nice hand held programmer and instructions.
You may notice that the circuit board has shifted in it's case. This is explained in the instructions. They have mounted it in dialectic foam for shock and vibration resistance. It is easy to reposition if need be.
We will get this all installed and post some video of it in operation ASAP.
Also, We will have all this at Toledo for those who may want to see this first hand, and can attend that show.

BTW, these gear are the first to come with a new, more powerful motor (this shortens the cycle speed). Down & Locked has been wanting to use it but availability was an issue. They have that solved and we are the first to get it. Also included with this gear are the new coated screw jacks. These have a backed on coating for wear resistance that eliminates the need for periodic user applied lubrication. Maintenance free is very nice, plus, the operation is virtually friction free.

There are guys who install there skis (not on their war birds) and go fly anyway, with their backs up to the burn barrel for heat. I've never been one of those guys.

Update on the gear. IT WORKS!!!! However, seems they programed it for a P-51 instead of the P-47 (inner door closes after the mains come down). A simple phone call to Mitch, and a properly programmed sequencer is on the way. We will send this one back. I may get some video before pulling it. We'll see.

Here is a video of the newly converted gear in action. The P-51 configuration will be corrected.

We are using Hitec digital servos on the doors, and have them programmed to 10% speed.

I also succumb to my obsessing over the dummy engine, and installed the lower cylinder for static display. It is retained with Velcro, and can easily be popped out leaving behind it's silhouette and exposing the fins of the gas engine behind, to allow greater cooling when flying.

Hi Gary it's great both the gear and the addition of the cylendar. If you had not mentioned it I don't think anyone would be able to tell the differance. Do you remember what digital servos you used on the gear doors? . Starting a list of things to get for mine so It will be helpfull to know what servos to get. thanks John T.

Gary,
Your retracts sound exactly like the ones I had installed in a pattern plane. When the motors were running to "retract" the gear, they were struggling, just like yours. Not good. They will go out. First they will get to where they'll barely lift the legs. Then, they'll get to where they won't lift the legs at all. Just a warning.
Not bashing what you're trying because I've been there just like you. My bet is that you'll be going back to air. Nobody has come out with a motor that is compact, yet strong/durable enough to stand up to the weight they have to lift. Maybe one day they'll get it right. Til then, good luck.

Time will tell, but I am pumped about the prospect of eliminating the problematic air systems we have dealt with for decades.
I will continue to keep you guys abreast of our experiences with this new system.
