RE: Meister 1/5 scale P-47
Ram, I was gonna order tape for panel lines and the 6in. foil you mentioned earlier. What size tape is best for T.F. Giant p47 and a rough guess at how much tape it would take to cover it ?

We chose to lay out the panel lines on the glassed airframe in ink, and then cut panels to fit. In some cases though, more panel seems were added later and I doubt one could tell them apart from even a couple feet.
After you are done, you can mask off the different panels and use Scotch Brite or steel wool to buff the aluminum, doing so in different directions on adjacent panels. This individualizes each panel and makes it 'pop'.
If you still want to go the chart tape way, I would say it would take about 600', depending of course on how much detail and if you do the bottom like the top.
For the foil, if you go with the Aero foil from Dino, you can always quickly get more if you run short. He ships in a day or so. So if you went with the wing area X 2, then X 2 again, plus 20% you would be close I think.
You may wait weeks for more Flight Metal. We did.

Thanks Ram, I will check hobbylobby here for those. I ordered a small length of the foil just to make sure I can work with it.

As far as the foil goes, do a good job glassing your air frame, and sand it smooth. The foil emphasizes any imperfections. Ripples are scale-like, but roughness and any fiber weave showing through will look bad under the foil. It doesn't 'float' over imperfections like iron on covering will. Don't be intimidated though. Just do a good prep job as you would for a nice paint job, and you will be fine.
Buy Exacto blades by the box, also. You will go through tons of them. I get them by the box of 100. You will use over half of that on one plane. If your blade is a little dull, it will start to tear, and that can trash a whole panel at times.

Thanks Dave. I think this is the later more powerful model. Nice shots.
Brian and I are in Toledo having a good time. Many beautiful planes in the competition, but surprisingly, only one jet so far. Surely will see more entered tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I didn't get one picture today. It was crazy. We were less than an hour out when Brian exclaimed "CRAP (the cleaned up version) I FORGOT THE PROP!!!!!!!". Well, we turned around (we were on a toll road and had to go another 10 miles to even turn around[]) and went all the way back home to get it. No one there to even bring it half way. We got to the show a little late and spent all afternoon talking and meeting folks. Zombie got a lot of attention, and even more so when we had her up on the jacks and cycled the gear, also got not video of that.
I'll fix that tomorrow. I'll get pictures and video to post tomorrow evening.
BTW, we have some Steel Powder with us if anyone is here and wants to see or purchase some.

Zombie looked awsome as usual.
Really like the engine / cowl mods.
Very nice !

BTW, both 1st and 2nd place had electric gear. No real impact on judging, just a fun little fact.
