they are close. the #3 is not as hot as the others but I think with some tweaking on the needles and with the fuel pump it will improve. I will do some more testing and tweaking once I get it back on the test stand. right now I need the motor for working out the motor mount on the plane while I am building.

I have seen several 150s run on three cylinders at mid throttle four at full throttle with occasionally the fifth running! Your 180 sounds like a much better situation. Are all five running with the one hot but not as hot as the others? One of the key tricks to get a Moki to run well is to have the idle on the lean side, but certainly the high throttle position should not be lean. In most cases the carb choke area is too large. Experiment with the throttle butterfly at around three quarter open for the full throttle setting and readjust the needle. -Tom

Here is an email update I received on planetary gear for the Moki 250 that I thought some here would be interested in.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the middle of february 2014 we had the first testflights of our brandnew developing of a planetary gear reduction for a Moki 250. The testplane is a proofen 10 year old Critical Mass with a wingspan of 2,6m, lenth 2,6m and takeoffwieght of 25kg.

Just coincidently we met Mr. Peter Stibi, a routined and interested pilot willing to run and test our prototyp gear in the air.

For this tests we use 4-blade props with maximum diameter of 35". More diameter was not able to avoid cutting grass during take off. 35" diameter gives us 2-3" clearance between props wingtip and ground.

The geardrive is powerful enough to run a 40" prop which was point of design in the beginning. We wanted to develop a powerplant able to power original scale dimensioned 4-blade-props on warbirds bigger than quarterscale. Most of the warbirds powered by the Moki 250 should be able to be run by the geardrive, too.

At Peters airfield we tested as a second maidenflight a 4-blade prop 35x48" which run quite nice and made everybudy saying wow to see this thing moving through the air. The view and sound was impressive!
But the task was to easy for the Moki! Therefore we will test a 35x60" !!! prop to see how this will work and how much the values are topping the last prop. Peters level is quite high: In direct drive with the Moki 250 he reached a speed of 230km/h. The geardriven 35x48" made 210km/h at least.
It keeps dramatic!

More details all around the Geardrive please find on our homepage:

What are our next steps?

- Get ready to the market with Moki-Geardrives
After a some more tests we want to start to manufacture the first small series of Geardrives. Right now we're asking for offers at different machine shops. We plan to sell the first units in the end of april 2014. Sorry, but actually we can't give a reliable answer about the prices because it's depending very much from the costs of machined parts.

- Test of some more props - 5-blade
As the potential of the powerplant is able to run bigger 4-blades it's nearby to think about scale 5-blade props for a seafury! Calculations and predesignes are already finished, we only have to manufacture the prop! Base is our proofen 5-blade clamping hub to reduce costs and work compared to a monopiece 5-blade.

New videos of flights or benchtest runs will be set on youtube soon. More informations will be send in additional newsletter mails.

Actually the older 150's are able to use the Kunkle Turbulator which makes the 150 run far better!

Due to an unfortunate situation, I am in search of the turbulator made by Detlef Kunkel for specifically the Moki 150 radial. Can anyone help? I am willing to pay full price. Thank you -Tom

Here's one for you guys. My third flight on a new 150, TO went well and upon setting up to land engine got rough and moments later quit running. Dead stick landing successful. Turned off switches and pulled the prop through with clicking noise. Gary Mills and Jeff Nahl were also observing and Jeff saw the rocker arm laying on the cowl chin! Pulled cowl and found pushrod and rocket boss pin inside and happy to find them. Turned out one of the E clips was either cracked or never seated properly. So add that to your pre flight when you lube the rockers Engine is back together and will check it this weekend

I have looked however cant seem to find the dimensions on the 7 cylinder Moki 250. I am most interested in the diameter and if it is any smaller than the 5 cylinder 250. I am trying to see if i can manage to fit a radial in a 1:4.Patton /Bates T-28 .. the 5 cylinder is just a little too big :\ ..

all best,

Voy

Here is a video of my Moki 180. This is the first run with it mounted to the plane. Has an electric fuel pump on it since I last tested it on the test stand. Seems to have helped with cranking and running. I will do some more testing and report.

Sounds great... glad to see I'm not the only person in Georgia who's terrorizing the neighborhood with radial engine noise!

The 180 sounds terrific....only question....you're not going to have the ailerons and elevators with that much throw I hope. I guess that sounded like my wife saying "you're not wearing THAT tonite are you?" Mitch
