Luke - The canopies you sent, IMHO, are perfect...not too thick and not too thin. I also showed them to a fellow scale modeler...who also has a CMP Zero...and he agreed....don't change a thing. and not to swell your head or anything, but yeah, you're the man when it comes to an alternative to the crappy CMP canopy...and from experience, well worth it!

Ha! I appreciate that my friend, there are enough people trying to deflate my ego, so it all balances out! And thanks for the nudge on the gear doors, I'm wondering how far this thing is going to go, but I'm having a blast with it. I decided to have the two separate doors, and it looks and works great, so thanks to you!

Got an update on the canopies, Frets24 has come through with a plan that really works for me, so I will be able to make everyone that wants one a canopy. I will be waiting for the material to show up and then I'll make them as needed until all that want one have one. So thank Frets24 for his persistence if or when you get one.

Luke

Okay, here's the photos of Luke's canopy mounted and faired in to the Zero fuselage. You can see how clear and crisp the canopy is and a HUGE improvement over the ARF supplied canopy...as well as the corrected framing. With the cockpit now complete, the fuselage is ready for chartpak tape and a final coat of primer before paint. I'm busy as all heck this week and out of town this weekend...so I won't be able to get any more progress until next week...but will keep posting updates.

By the way Luke, the gear looks awesome.....very nice functionality and attention to detail. Wow.

Well, Luke has let the cat out of the bag. So, I'll just confirm; Luke is quite the man and struck a hard deal(kidding)

I've made the arrangements for a 48x96 sheet to be delvered direct to him and it is on it's way. There should be more than 1 and less than 16 canopies available from the sheet once I've had mine, but I have left the remainder of the sheet to his discretion and personal use if he so desires. ( I have a sneaky suspicion that he'll make a bunch of you very happy if you ask nicely though)

In other words guys...the materials are the least part of the whole thing; Luke has a lot of time and effort invested making a quality plug and frame with more to be spent on each pull so be prepared to compensate him for your new canopies. I'm sure he will price them fairly and remember these are WAY better than what you got in the box or can get from nitro planes.

Now, it's open season on Luke's talent, vaccu-former, and good graces.

Three cheers for the god of food, wine and merriment!!!!

(Luke, RCU cut me off in the middle of my PM to you and only sent 1/2 of it. Tracking from San Diego to follow as soon as I get it. Thanks again for everything)

I've got my hand up too for a canopy but i'm in the UK and don't know if you want to have to go to all the trouble. If you really don't mind let me know. I'd love one.

Lat weekend was busy, but I'm getting back on the zero. Started laying ou thte chartpak on the fuselage and have the canopy taped off...again....and plan to apply the final coat of primer this weekend.

By the way, even though the CMP Zero is too small, anyone planning to attend Warbirds Over Delware in a couple of weeks? I plan to be there Saturday spectating.

Thanks, yea it automatically works like the full scale when the scissors are cut and set at the scale location.

Thanks L16pilot! Your plane is looking great man, can't wait to see it finished!

Been busy with some other projects around the house, but I got the plastic and will be ready to send out canopies next week. I guess the best way to do this is through the PM system, so send me a PM with your info and what you want and I would really like it if everyone used PayPal just to keep it simple. Limited time offer (shuglu!) I will ship to the UK and other countries, it is a pain but I'll do it for this project. $15 plus shipping on the canopies, this is for my buds on RCU exclusively, get em while they last!

So get those requests in so I can make them all at one time and get them all out just as fast, this offer will end July 8, 2011.

ZERO-322 I have not forgotten about you bro! Your parts will be shipping with the rest.

$15 will do nicely...just let me know how much the shipping is and i'll pay up...paypal will be just fine too so no worries on that front either.</p>

I was going to get all the orders at once, then make them next week, so I will not be taking money just yet. All everyone has to do is PM me with what you want and I'll get back to everyone next week. I'm trying to make this easy on me by doing everything all at one time, so just be patient, I received your request and you are #4 on the list, I'll get back to you when I have the canopies made. After that I'll weigh the box and determine shipping and you can send the funds, sound like a workable plan?

I've been trying to contact him with no luck.

7 months to repair from ripping a wheel out of the right hand wing.....strengthened both wings, new batteries/resprayed/new air gauge..maidened this afternoon.....10 seconds up and she rolled and did the dive of death. CoG was 135mm, weight just over 7kgs...should have been sweet.
Gutted doesn't even come close to telling you how i feel right now.  I'm just wondering what to do....do i get another...which if i'm honest as i sit here now sounds too painful. I loved this plane. Sigh.[]
Here's some pics before and the results of less than a minute later.

I would not mind the 83" vers...as i have a broken in crrc pro 50 cc....is that the 72" vers?.

Neo G. Yes, Its the 72" version...or was anyway.
L16/Nisha. I'm pretty sure the CoG was ok...its probably further forward than i had it before its rebuild. It was a bit heavier but i think we're talking 80oz max with all the reapirs. When i got home and before i took it apart i turned the electronics all back on and tried all the servos. Everything moved as it should. I've watched the video back a dozen times and for the life of me i can't see what happened. I took off, climbed out , banked right and throttled back a bit. I kept the nose down and if anything just before it was in a slight dive so accelerating and then as i pulled to turn again it rolled in the right direction but just kept rolling and i remember fighting it all the way down but it felt like i had no radio conection. Its the same radio gear, servos and radio set up as before only the batteries have changed for new ones and the air press gauge. The only thing i can see from a visual inspection and you can see on the photos is that the right hand aileron was sitting at the side of the model on the floor so i'll having a closer look at that tonight. Seems strange that its come off. Other than that i am at a total loss and now nervous about my radio gear. I wish i could just find something positively wrong. I'm not totally ruling out a stall but the conditions were perfect and i would say it was flying fast enough not to be anywhere near a stall. (from past experience with the plane).
I think i'd just flicked the switch on the radio to raise the gear too as one is locked up but the other wasn't quite up when it landed/smashed itself to bits in a corn field. So i'll check that situation out in case it caused something to change, but again it hasn't changed since the last time it flew.

Maybe best way to solve this problem is another Zero. You have all equipment for it, you know weak points so it can be assembled fast.

I'm liking that idea Misha....as you say everything can be transfered straight in. I think i'll be changing the reciever just for piece of mind though. I'll have a go at posting the video later on. Its just the mods to the wing for the retracts that'll take the time AGAIN. Re-covering the wing isn't a 5 minute job either.

Or if this doesn't work just type CMPro Zero into Vimeo and you'll find it.

Sorry for your loss, I have a Wills hobbies 73 inch Zero.  I think it is quite close to the CMP.

In you video, what was the beeping I kept hearing? And in the back ground I do see a tower of some kind. Any chances you were getting interferance from the tower?

It looks like there are microwave dishes and cell dishes, are there any new dishes that have gone up lately? maybe running close to your frequency or drowning out your TX...

BTW beautiful land scape. Love to get my dirt bike out there for a rip or two.

Shuglu,

I watched you video. That hurt. To me it looked like cg was ok, you had control until you started the bank and it just kept banking and rolling, nose dropped and she went in. Looks like total radio failure, either from fault in system or failsafe that locked up the controls and didn't reset in time to recover. If it was a servo failure or even a control surface coming off, you would have still had some control. It looked like once that last bank was started, you had none. Really sorry to see that.

However, I've been flying mine, it flys great and I have almost a hundred flights on it now. Go for another Zero. They just fly great. I use Fataba radios an have had no problems on 2.4. I've read reports that spektrum systems go to failsafe and take too long to reset, but personally don't know.
