RE: Giant Scale Twins F7F Tigercat
Certification flights tomorrow at high-noon!
Went through the airframe, engines, landing gear, batteries today... everything checks out.
Fingers crossed... going to be hard to sleep soundly tonight!
Report tomorrow evening.

RE: Giant Scale Twins F7F Tigercat
Well, it's in the books and quite official now. Got three really good flights on the tigercat this afternoon, each better than the last. The model grooves really well and settles in great for landing!
Lots of photos were taken, but none by me, so I'll have to wait to upload when I receive them. Also, had a good friend shoot some high quality video... again, I'll have to give him a chance to get it uploaded.
Hats off to Giant Scale Twins.... damn impressive model!
And thanks to Steve Thompson and Todd Davis for serving as my certification referees today.
Last, I should note that my tigercat is highly modified and grossly overpowered, and for those reasons over-built. So just because mine came in at 69.5 lbs, and required certification in the AMA Large Model Airplane Program, I see no real reason why person could not get one together under 55 lbs and fly it with authority on a couple of strong single cylinder engines.
Back soon.

Noah,
Great to hear all went well, cant wait to see the video? I do have a question though, I thought the new AMA guidelines raised the weight limit to 125lbs. so I'm assuming everything over 75lbs. still requires certification? my rough estimates tells me that my Tiger Cat will come in around 70-75 lbs. with the DA 100's.

RE: Giant Scale Twins F7F Tigercat
In general terms
LMA-1 are all non-turbine powered model airplanes weighing 55 pounds (25 kilograms) to 77.2 pounds (35 kilograms), with fuel, ready to fly.
LMA-2 are all non-turbine powered model airplanes weighing 77.3 pounds (35 kilogram) to 125 pounds (56.7 kilogram) with fuel, ready to fly.
LMA-1
a. Inspection of the model airplane in accordance with section Guidelines for Large Model Airplaner Inspection by either the owner of the LMA or an AMA LMA Inspector (LMAI).
b. The owner will determine the flight envelope that will consist of at least one of the following items:
i. Level maneuvers, flat turns, gentle climbs and dives
ii. Looping maneuvers
iii. Rolling maneuvers
iv. Inverted flight
v. Spins
vi. Snap maneuvers
vii. Unrestricted aerobatics
c. Two demonstration flights observed by the owner and either an AMA Contest Director (CD), Leader Member (LM) or LMAI are required. A list of current LMAI is available on the AMA Web site under the Member Only Documents section.
i. In the event that the owner is also the pilot, then the two demonstration flights will be observed by two CDs, LMs, or a combination thereof. If the observer is a LMAI, a second witness is not required.
d. Upon satisfactory completion of test flights, all required documentation will be filled out and signed by the owner, pilot and CD/LM/LMAI and then immediately forwarded to AMA headquarters.
e. If for any reason the observers are not completely satisfied with the airworthiness of the model as demonstrated, further test flights must be arranged after rectification of the faults noted.
If your planes falls into the LMA-2 category, then you have to have a large model inspector (LMAI) there for everything!

Tiny little (~98" wingspan) Ziroli Mustang!
I'm actually pretty excited to start a new, rather simple project. It should go together quick, and it's very well established that Ziroli planes fly great!!

RE: Giant Scale Twins F7F Tigercat
I'll send you pictures, Richard, but no build thread... There are certainly enough Ziroli P-51 threads/resources out there already!
I only chose to start the F7F thread, as well as participate in the Kellogg Avenger thread, because there were literally ZERO documented build threads out there on those two models. I hope that the F7F and Avenger threads might one day serve a good resources for others who purchase and eventually start building those two kits.

What about the paint ball machine guns we plan on putting in the Mustang? We can strafe the petromat and leave really cool bullet marks on it. Ihave some GI Joes we could stand up on the runway.

Some more photos from the certification day. Thanks, David!
Also, I saw a sneak preview of some of the video that was taken... I'll get it linked soon. Really well done!

What a beautiful aircraft. I have an Art Johnson F-82 Twin Mustang sitting here that needs a builder like yourself. Smile. Great work, and congrats on the consecutive successful flights. I'm sure there will be many more. Your hard work and time certainly paid off. Chic
