Hi guys, just been reading threads and getting worked up. TheXmass and New Years are over hopping to start a new job on the 4th of this year 2010 so it's back to shaping foam to start glassing my gear doors. I'll try posting some pics as I go on.

Want to go AGAINST the GRAIN? try this!!!

This just an artist's rendition of a captured Corsair.
Is there a story behind this Tom? I'd love to know more if there is. It would be great to see a unique Corsair.

It is known that Germany did capture an intact Corsair (from the RAF?) during WW II. Little is known what became of it, and the paint scheme as I understand it: is speculative based on other captured allied aircaft.

I'am looking to buy a new Saito for my top-flite 1/8 corsair .
What do you think about Saito 115 or 125 with a three blades prop.

From Top Flite web-site:
Engine Required: 2-stroke .61-.90 cu in or 4-stroke .91-1.20 cu in
I think your engines are at the upper end of those suggestions, and either will swing a 3 blade prop (even the Saito .82 on mine swings a 3 blade prop).
So what exactly is your question?

beaulac1,

Both engine choices are good, but now are you wanting to put in a 2S or 4S engines? I currently have a Saito 1.0 4S in my H9 F6F Hellcat. I'm currently building a TFGE F4U-1 Corsair, I'm putting in a Super Tigre 90 2S which will pull my aircraft through the air with authority.

Saito 115 is perfect choice. The 125 is a little larger and heavier. The 115 will swing a 14 or 15 3-blade (x7 or x8) prop and provide pretty good flight envelope.

It's great to see this thread is still going. I am about to start building my red box Corsair. I had purchased a tail kit from Chad Veigh and hope to start the build soon. It's just been too cold to work in my shop in the garage. Teens at night and highs of 30 during the day.

Where exactly do you guys go to order that tail kit and how much does it cost. also for the guys that made the scale tail wheel, is there any way I can pay to have one built for me. I would love to have one for my tf corsair but I do not have the tools to build one myself.

Stew,

Contact Chad at the following email address [email protected] he will be able to assist with the tail kit, it will probably take him two weeks to get the tail kit to you. If you have the basic tools (dremel, files, and disc sander) and can get some PC board from either ebay or radio shack, then you will need to hit up your local hobby shop or ACE Hardware store or any store that carries K&S metal supplies for the proper tube material, also needed 1/4" aluminum rod and 3/16 brass "L" bracket. The construction is strait forward plus there is a build thread on RCU on how to build a retract http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_70..._1/key_/tm.htm some good information and how too's plus step by step construction.

bigstew60,

I'm retired Navy, you couldn't have gotten me to take orders too any where in California. This is my current build; http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9240657/tm.htm I had purchased Chads 1/8th scale tail feathers last year and couldn't be happier, he has designed and produced an excellent scale tail kit for the TF Corsair.

It has taken weeks to get through all 52 pages of this thread.   Very interesting.
Somewhere in the last several pages someone asked about a 1/8 scale pilot.
They are impossible to find- at least they have evaded me for  a year of search.  The closest I can find is
Best Pilots.  He has some great polits but not a full body 1/8 th.  I emailed and discussed with him about taking the 3/4 body (1/8 size)
and adding the legs etc.  Seems he may be interested if there is a demand.  So let him know.  I hope to get a couple as soon as available.

RCAlan,

Thanks for the heads up, visited best pilots website and found the future pilot thread. The pilot looks great, even looks like Maj. Greg (Pappy) Boyington.

I am building one of these .60 sized TF Corsairs. I've been pouring over the clever mods and nice work in this thread. I'll be incorporating some of these into mine.

It seems as though most of you have finished this build.

I would like to see some pics of your finished Corsairs and I'd also like to know how they fly... and is your Corsair is still around today?

Thanks,
-John

I like the idea of Smug's removable cowl top.

I was thinking that an inverted bomb-drop mechanism might work well for this.

I too have followed this thread. It and others has been a great inspiration. I ordered another Corsdair but by the time it came we were into summer and the boating season. So- it looks like I will start this fall. I did put the time into the tail wheel build. Somehow I must have missed something as it does not work quite right in the "Shock absorber area", so I will be playing with it a bit more to get that right. Another month or so and it will be time to order the tail assembly and the pilot. I have been in touch with both of those suppliers.Sure would like to build around the rotary engine.... will have to decide if I want to make that investment. The custom exhaust system would be great also.!
There are multiple options for the retracts and geardoors. Still not sure what Iwant to do there.

Any body need a new( 1 hr.) 4 stroke O.S. 120S-lll ? Offers.

I am going to try to make this work with a small gasser. It came out of a weedwacker. If that is going to be too heavy, I have an OS .91 FS thats never been run. Either way, I'd love to do a scale functional exhaust too.
I'm glad I'm not the only one working on one of these.

I have a set of Robart 615s that I acquire a long time ago, not my first choice, but they wont cost me anything.

scale flaps, gear doors, ailerons... love this stuff.. I like the way GrimReapers' Corsair came out - something to shoot for.

It sounds a lot better than adding a bunch of holes to the cowl. This mod is way down the road but I'm definitely going to do this.
