The more interesting question is, when will a kit be available? Come on TopFlite, add a new giant scale kit to the three warbirds you already offer. I have no doubt that it would sell.

I know. And I know I am being terrible. [sm=red_smile.gif]

I just want to apply a little pressure in the remote hope that an ARC could materialize, like the giant mustang. [sm=idea.gif]

I think that they will eventually release some ARC's,

because they won't have to spend money to introduce such a kit.....they save the covering cost too

Hi all
There hasn't been any activity here so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that TF is releasing the 60 sized P-40. Mid July is what Tower is showing right now as a delivery date. Like a lot of you I am waiting for the giant scale due in August hopefully. The 60 size arf doesn't come with retracts, we are able to install our own choice, way to go TF. Looking at the manual it looks like we are also gluing in the retract mounts. That is another plus in my opinion, we do not have to guess about a questionable glue joint. I'm wondering how many of you will buy the 60 size while waiting for the Giant scale one, I already have the 60 size on back order, I'm pretty sure I am not the only one.

1)yippie -I am glad the 60 size is in the pipeline , I tought it was a December release
2)For the ARC fans , I had a long talk with the guys from Hobby People about 8 years ago on the entire trend of ARC .
As you may recall they did release a ton of ARC planes in the model tech line . Some very nice planed including the P51 with scale counter balances , very nice balsa/ply build up frame ect .
THey stated that the arc did not sell , the rc modeler wanted a kit or a ARF but nothing inbetween , remember this is from a company that sells the planes not me . I love to see an ARC , but I dont think its going to happen based on trend .

I bought the ARC modeletech P51 on closeout for $150 , great plane and a great deal for me but bnot for hobby people

I thought the 60 size wasn't going to happen, that is why I pulled the trigger on the giant scale. Looks like it will have a little twin brother now, oh well things could be worse.

An interesting look at the retracts on the website are now avaiable . THey appear to be Top Flights own versions of the Robart 615s .
No doubt made by robart for Top Flight . Why I have no idea lol unless they simply copied the design but I am sure there was a patient or at leaste an expired one .

The retracts sell for less then the 615 but I guess my concern is why even bother . Most guys flying the Gold Edition upgraded to the sierra or CJs . The old scissor leg 615 need perfact landing to have any chance in the field .

I am sure tons will come forward and defend the gear , I am speaking of what I have seen and personally experienced .
I am glad they are offering a low cost retract but it simply be problem waiting to happen and then we will see pages of "did this happen to your retracts " when the leags fold in .
If there anything like the original 615s , even the sensitivity to over tightening of one screw can impact the legs from retracting properly .

Trust me on this , I love the P40ties , its my most modeled plane and i have owned at leaste 9 P40 from red box , Gold ed, Pica 1/6, VQ , CMP , Balsa Products , Model Tech , and all have had retracts from the 615 , Sierra gear and CJs -615 being the most troublesome

It figures, I have a new set of Robart 615s to put in the 60 size ARF, now you tell me there not the best. Oh well time will tell. they have to be better than mechanical

That's what i thought too....

They HAVE TO be better than the mechanical.

I think the major drawback of such retracts,
retracts that are going to be used to P-40S etc,

is that that have to move 90 degrees in-out but also , simultaneously turn 180 degrees...

And that turn is making trouble during the design and operation.

Correct ?

Top flite got smart, if you ask me....
don't bother to include junk retracts and then have everyone complain about them!...
For the .60 size....

I want the giant and the .60 size....

They did a AWSOME job....

Next to come......TF Giant, and .60 corsair!....

There is not one issue but a few based 100% on my own experience and not what I have read
1)The mounting rails are thin with zero tolerance to flex -so if you mount them on a kit build or an arf and tighten them down and there is a very little variance in the wood rails , it will creat binding in the soft scissor legs .
2)the scissor when landing if you have a slight cross wind or need to make last min adjustments and move the plane latterally on landing , the scissor will bend easily .
Once bent , you may get them straight , but you have now increased your chances of binding 95% .
The design (while stand off scale ) in appearance was made for planes in my opinion that were in the 4 to 6lbs range so that they are not stressed .
Again on experience I have seen them used and used them with planes in the 8 to 11 pound range but not with longevity .

Also there are hundreds of post on fixing what I am stating , but I do not buy retracts (a luxary in my opinion ) to fix them more then the model itself .
Retracts are like digging a hole for a tree , you should never dig a $125 hole for a $300 tree , in the end the tree will die

maybe jim can chime in, but do you think a da-85 would be able to be fully concealed in the cowl?

Wow,,,
THat is some very bad prototype testing, and or the final poduct (metal) is not up to par....
Either way....Junk....

Never can figure out why companies do things this way.....
Do it right, or don't do it at all....

If I were the company, I would redesign them, and place a notice out to ALL previous consumers
"Send retracts to us, we do the update on the retracts, or we just send out the part, " done deal...

Thankyou for the INformation....
It will save me many headaches in the future....

220$ shipped... not bad...
50$ break for members...
Got to like it...

LDM,
I should look at were all those other HS are...
Victoria is 25Min's out of some of those...but I hear they are awsome.

I would hold off on the CJs until you know that the new ARF is the exact same specs as the gold edition kit .
Bruce from CJ usually makes the gear for each plane
Also you will probably have a choice if Sierra has anything to do with it
I am sure Darrell will make a set for this plane if the demand is there .
