If you are just getting started on this CMP Zero do yourself a big favor and reinforce the firewall area with fiberglass and extra plywood. I am going to be reinforcing mine with extra fiberglass. I will be using the thin plywood ring that mounts as a template and making one out of 1/2 plywood. This bird needs a lot of nose weight even if you use a heavy gas engine so you might as well us the extra weight that is needed to reinforce the firewall. You'll be happier in the long run believe me.;) The cowl my friend is going to be making for me is going to be heaver then the original one and will hold up to a nose over landing. I lost my original one that why and been looking for one for over a year know.

Finally I can post the pictures. So here are the promised pictures of the cowl.
Chris are the dimensions same as yours?

Last weekend I had to walk the dog and the weather was beutiful for the flying with my small Zero on the play ground behind my house. So I joined pleasent thing with the necessary thing. :D
My friend was very helpful, so I had two planes.

I have a World Models Zero and the retract mounts were junk. I totally redid the mounts this way and it has held up for 11 years and many flights. Just flew it again the other day. More photos in my gallery. Paul

Very nice looking Zero with lots of detail. What size is this Zero and what engine are you using. The CMP 82" Zero fly's really well on a 45cc gas engine.

Yes, Jim you´re right, Agy really wanted to get the Zero, mainly during low slow flight past. I´ve never tried to land near the dog.

80" Wingspan BME 44 engine. There is a video of it flying as well as a nice Heli cam of our field on our website - spacecityrc.com check it out! PS. it is mistakenly labeled as a CMP Zero. Paul

Very nice video of your World Models Zero. Looks like you fell very comfortible fly it. If you wood like to see my CMP maiden flight look back at post#30. I love the way this plane flys. I will have my cowl in a few weeks and back in the air soon I hope.;)

I think your cowl measurements are close to mine . not exact but close enough . They could have been from different plugs or suppliers . I don't think there is enough difference to be concerned with though.

I think, that the biggest mistake was during the measuring of the round shape. This mistake occures very often during the measuring like this.

The 3 blade in the pictures is for static only. I fly with an APC 18x14 2 blade. Thanks for the comments. Paul

I´ve just received the dummy of engine. I will make it up and get it into my Zero.
Does anobody have some picture of Zero´s engine?

You really can't see much of the engine because the spinner fills up most of the cowl opening . On my current Zero I used a dummy radial that I got from Nick Ziroli which I had laying around . I wont waste my time fitting a dummy radial on the next one since you cant see much of it anyhow.

If you don't want to mess with a dummy engine, I made a couple with this picture and print it to size. Glue it to a paper plate and secure with gorilla glue to the cowling. Costs nothing and lasts a long time if you go over it with thinned 30 min epoxy. Paul

Chris, I know, that I won´t be able see the engine because of the spinner. I would like to set it on my Zero after the maiden flight. I don´t want to risk a destruction if the maiden flight wouldn´t be good.

Lots of talk about the Zero cowl here. Has anyone compared the CMP cowl to the Yellow Aircraft cowl. The airplanes are a very similar size overall. I own a completed Yellow Zero and a CMP kit but the kit is stored away and access isn't easy. At any rate, the YA cowl is very well made and available. Lots of nose weight in that YA plane but it flies great.

After getting the measurements & pictures of the cowl from you guys my friend said it looks like the cowl tappers some from the firewall to the nose. So I bit the bullet and ordered another CMP 80" Zero. It arrived Friday and now we have a good cowl to use as a mold to make a much stronger cowl.:D I'll post some pic's of the new cowl once Paul has them finished. We are hoping to have two CMP Zeros after this once we are done.;)

I will take a look at the YA cowl and compare it to the CMP cowl if I can.
