Long time since's i've updated this thread, but in the last couple of weeks I have made strides forward on the 109 project. I added rivets to the entire fuse, and panel lines added to the wings some time ago, as well as the exhausts and supercharger intake relocated, landing gear relocated, and new tailwheel. The model was just waiting on the final landing gear bay mods to be done and to make some mod's to the set of sierra's retracts i have for it. Since I last updated on this post I also had a new canopy made by a local modeler who does this and makes spinners in his spare time. The canopy is so much clearer and more durable now.!
So fast forward something like 612 months later and After re-painting a 132" B-17 for a mate, It got my painting juices going and I looking at the 109 being so close to paint made me decided to paint and weather the 109 as well. Paint is my now standard PPG dulon acrylic paint, and top coat is a 2k clear for a nice flat and durable finish. weathering is done with a range of products. All the markings are painted on. the only stickers that will be on the model are going to be the swastikas (which had already been painted on and then sanded off) do to some changes in laws here locally. Now as time allows and realistically around other projects, I will be installing the last of the gear and getting it closer to being ready to fly. I have everything I need to complete her here already, just need the magical item.... time. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...67ab45df9e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...4b82f3d2c4.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...06e7b3a789.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c3cbbea414.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...887b81c6dd.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f96089e026.jpg |
Lovely work, Mate 👍

Cmp 109
Nice job, the 109 just looks so much better with the weathering Makes me want to bump mine to the front of the line for finishing, not easy having airplane A.D.D, but do have a good museum of planes hanging in the garage. And It does have a built dynamic bf-109 and my Parkzone me-109z.
this would look good though. great job , your buddy with the spinner , did he make a mold and do a fiberglass one with aluminum back plate? can’t remember was the consensus , was the kit spinner with aluminum back plate good for electric , but replace for gas/glow? post some video of flights would like to see that. Nice mods and finish--looks a treat

Thanks guys. getting all the servos setup now but have also decided to part ways with the RCGF 26cc engine i have in it and replace it with... a RCGF 26cc rear exhaust :D even with a pitts muffler I would have to hack into the cowl more than i want to.
Joey, Russ makes an all aluminium backplate and a spun aluminium dome for the spinner. shouldn't explode. |

Jump on his website, he has his email on there:
Home if you tell him you want the Me-109 spinner the same as Dave Martin you will get the right one Thanks dave |
I picked up one of these ARFs NIB with a TY spinner and Sierra retracts for $250. One issue is the TY spinner has no cut outs for the prop, what tools and method did you find worked best to get this accomplished.
After inspecting the kit I found the wheel wells unusable due to being crushed. Any one have assume extras to sell? |
You got a great deal!
For the spinner cutouts I make a paper template then trace around it. To cut out; a dremel with cutoff wheels and grinding attachments works well. If it's aluminum a sheet metal nibbler can also work. Wheel well liners can be easily made using plastic cups. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...448e6a31b6.jpg |
Great idea!
One more thing...What's a good source for scale wheels? |

One more thing...What's a good source for scale wheels? Glennis Aircraft used to be a good source but they went out of business. I got wheels from a German hobby shop for my ESM Bf-109 but they no longer carry them. You might put a 'wanted' ad on this forum. Be sure to indicate what size you need. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b4485dfe50.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...34f80ca84a.jpg |

I 3D printed some, a bit of a more modern solution to an age old problem for german warbirds. Also, you will need to make the cutouts in the wing lower skin significantly larger to get anything even remotely close to scale size to fit. The largest I was able to fit was 4" |
Just picked one of these up at a swap meet-looking for a manual, as well as anyones recommended:
CG: Ail Throws (high/low/any expo?): Ele Throws: Rudder Throws: Flaps Throws: Also, looking for a manual for an ASP 1.80 FS...can this be hand-propped? don't know how to get a starter on that huge 5" spinner... thanks gents! |
I have a manual. If you can't find a digital copy send me a PM with your name and address and I will mail it to you.

Hi Herky
I assume that you are talking about a CMP BF109, I should have a manual and will see if I can scan and mail it. Not sure if I can put it on as an attachment, never done it before. I hand start an OS 1.20 so I assume that you can also start a 1.8. I use a heavy industrial leather glove and only do single flicks then wait before going for the prop again. If you prime and hand crank holding the propeller firmly until get get a kick it should start in one or to flicks if the carby is set close. You are lucky it didn't come with the original spinner as these were brittle and dangerous. I have never finished mine (hanging on the wall since 2016) but I was told in threads at the time that it is very fast on a 1.2 so a 1.8 will be a bullet. I was also told to be very careful with the flaps as it sinks rapidly without power (practice with height) If you have installed the radiator cooling panels to work for appearance they are very effective air brakes, drops light a stone. I was also told to strengthen the undercarriage mounts. One last hint is that unless they have changed the design the wheels drop almost at the CoG and it noses over really easy, worse with a heavier motor. If this is the case you should consider modifying the mounting to get the wheels further forward If I find my copy I will get back to you and if you want I could send you pix of how I did the U/C david.R |

HI Herky
Here is the manual regards david.R |
appreciate the info-I looked at the spinner-its an abs backplate :( I saw that Fliteskin has a CF spinner that works...anyone else have something (that's still in business)?
Anyone just disable the top flap? dont really need a speedbrake on this one. |
What diameter of the spinner do you need Herky? We still do some spinners.
|
Yeah I had mine made not that long ago by russ at aeroscale.com.au
I believe he as made a few more since then. For the top portion of the inboard flaps I have mechanically set it up so it move very little compared to the lower portion of the flap. I made a new hole as inboard as i could on the servo arm for the top one and the lower one is connect a lot further out. Thanks dave |
Here are wheels that might work; https://www.sunshine-modellbau.de/ra...-ww2--23x105mm

Spinner (again)
Hello all,
Is the original spinner backplate what explodes? Or is it the cone or all? I am about to manufacture my own and would like to know if I need to make just the backplate or the whole thing. Thanks |

This was a week ago…i really like the big spinner-it is a great feature!
the controls and pushrods and MOST hardware on this CMH stuff is really garbage. If i continue with this plane ill put dual elevator servos back in the tail, and probably abandon the “speed brake” flap setup. Its not scale, and pretty wonky. mine is tail heavy-im moving my CG FORWARD about an inch. |
Thank you!
good enough for me, I’ll make my own then. Regards |
