one of two things. just like the brakes on others.. it's getting too hot and dragging.. or the spring is allowing the clutch to engage or not disingauge properly allowing it to overheat.

Well, I did my first hardcore bashing (well, to me it was hardcore) today on a gravel mound. Man, that's a lot of fun! I set my video camera on a tripod and got some footage which I'll put up sometime. Anyhow, that truck can take some pretty vicious spills and keep coming back for more. My mangled clutch bell claimed another clutch spring so I just kept going without one. I kind of liked it that way, actually. I am still amazed at the beating that truck can take.

everyone in this hobby.. buy some liquid silcone spray.. spray in on all of the suspension.. moving parts.. It will collect dirt but will also allow easier cleaning and less build up..

take a measurement of the o.e. clutch bell.. and count the teeth. should fit fine.. No guessing involved.

Hey stewtheman, Thanks for the tips on those HPI MT2 front end parts yesterday, I am gona try the plastic ones that are at my lhs.
I think they will be better then the stock ones... at least they will be cheap and easy to find if they do end up breaking.

I have been having a blast with this thing (untill the other day when the steering knuckle broke, but it was my fault for crashing so hard) these trucks can take more abuse then I thought. I've been doing some pretty big jumps and thrashing some dirt mounds near my house. Anyone in this forum in Michigan? We could have some Volcano racing or something.

Oh yea, stewtheman, you said you used a bushing on the inside of that knuckle instead of that big bearing? is that working alright?

The bushings have worked great for the 10 or so tanks I've run with them. The stock knuckles are actually set up that same way with bearings on the outer part of the axle and bushings on the inside.

Shady, that is the bell that I ordered, but I don't really know if it's going to work. All I know is that it better get here quick because my stock bell is tanking big time!

your better off buying some denatured alcohol and putting it in a spray bottle with a little fantastic and spraying down your car at the end of your day and blowing it dry with some air in a can or compressor and air gun. the silicone spray will make it very difficult to clean since it will attract all the dirt and dust. I use the silicone spray on my RC boats exterior hardware since it leaves a nice !QUOT!waterproof!QUOT! coating on the metal parts that are in the water. i wouldnt recommend putting it on a nitro car.

Hi All,

Well i got a weird problem, maybe someone can shed some light, when i run my truck and it gets under some strain the truck stops moving and i get some metal squeeling and thats about it, normally when i'm going up a hill or going up a verge, but when running on the flat it seems fine, no squeeling and no noise or anything... anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
Pierre

Since its only doing it when strained or under a heavy load(uphill),
I think you need to take your front & rear gear boxes out and check the gears inside for damage.

That or mabey your spur gear needs spring tightend up?

Also dont put to much strain on that clutch bell rite now till you get your problem figured out.

You might want to take the clutch bell off as well and check inside of bell & clutch slices for damage.

Let us know if this helps

I do NOT agree with using any type of liquid silcone spray on your trucks.
Use shock oil on suspension
It is very important to keep these things clean and well maintained so frequent cleanups are very important to the life of your rc.
Silcone is a good lube but it atracts dirt dust under your body when you use it and with these engines sucking in so much air It just dont sound like a good idea.

I agree with ehroof about the denatured alcohol & cleaning.

i know of the downfalls about the silicone spray. but i also know that believe it or not.. After your done running the dirt will blow right off with compressed air.. I don't like the alchohol only because of fact that it pulls moisture etc.. from rubber plastic and just about anything.. I always spray my real trucks undercarriage or atvs with silicone or armor all makes clean up really easy. and repels water.. as stated above. But only draws the dust etc to were you spray it.

stupid question, what do you guys think about those nitro cleaner spray? That takes off a lot of dirt and gas off the car pretty good and after that, I use the air gun to clean off the rest.. It works really well for me I think.. .. It makes my alum looks clean and shinny

Hey Futa

Yip i finally found the problem, i totally forgot to mention i was working on the stampede, i've been alittle scatter brained since coming home and i leave tomorrow to go back to London, too much to do too little time, Anyway i found out its the plastic spur gear slipping when under strain, it shredded some gears but i managed to do a quick fix and i'll buy some better gears back in london and bring them home and replace it.

Thanks for your help,
I gotta get to bad and then pack,
Cheers

I just did some more jumping today at the local gravel mound and my wife took some pictures, so I thought I'd share them with everyone.

nitro car cleaner is the same as denatured alcahol, cleans and dries real fast. Lube your rubber parts every once in a while and your bearings too.

Hey guys here are some pics of the track that I race at. Yesterday I went through 2 quarts of fuel without any problems. I did break that clutch spring but I replaced it with a traxxas one and it worked great. I did have a couple of comments yesterday about the truck. So for all you nay sayers out there here it is. !QUOT!that is the most durable truck of its size that I have ever seen!QUOT! that's after crashing a lot and nothing breaking. !QUOT!That truck is pretty tough what kind is it!QUOT! !QUOT!That thing is really quick what size engine does it have!QUOT!. There were other comments like !QUOT!If you had a better suspension you would smoke me in a race!QUOT! He had a T-max. So pretty much they need better suspension for track racing and better tires. That's all I got for now. Oh the clutch spring broke the day before. I just remembered that I did break a steering arm but I break at least one of those every time I run. That's why I always have about six on me and I can change them out in about five minutes. One the the guys at the track said he can make me anything in aluminum if I give him an original part. going to take him up on that offer.Oh like normal sorry about the quality of the pics don't have a digital yet.
