Default RE: Redcat vehicle repair/tune FAQ

got the clutch spring and it works fine. after a few tanks noticed the spring had sustained some wear and began to hear a jingling sound coming from the clutch bell. Really love how it launches now with this spring. Gotta get another part tomorrow. These things are too fast for the horrible roads here in New Orleans. Hit a bump that the car should have gone over.....put some curb rash on my rims and broke a tie arm.....or believe its a drive shaft for the front tire....dont ask how but its just missing completly now, lol. After this repair think it will be strictly parking lot driving for me. Too expensive to drive it in front my house! Guess thats why its called a hobby car

oh yeah, are there any tricks to getting the clutch to near perfect operating condition (grease in the clutch shoe grove, sanding down the clutch shoes some so that its a bit smaller) The bearings are in good shape just would rather do without the jingling sound its giving me. Any professional pointers?

Man i kinda would like to switch to 1 speed cause the 2 way drive clutch is the biggest POS(already went through three 2 way drive clutch's)! And i already had to replace the one way bearing, which is pretty expensive. [:@] But i just got the new HPI 2 speed racing setup... Ugh! Be a waste if i just switched to 1 speed right now. But if i did what all would i have to buy??

Biggest, most important improvement i would like to see to the tornado is a better 2 speed. More reliable one way bearing and more reliable, more consistent 2 way drive clutch. The 2 way drive clutch is horrible.

The one speed is very simple to disassemble you take the tranny out by the four screws on the bottom of the chassis and pull the driveshafts out with the tranny slowly.Take the drive cup off by unloosening the hex screw it is easier to take the drive cup off that dont have the brakes on it.Then take the screw out of the side of the tranny and pull the cases apart. then slide the shaft with the throttle gear out and take the e-clip off and then take a screw driver and pry the spur gear off and then slide the throttle gear off and put it back together. When putting the tranny back in the car it is alot easier by taking off the top plate because you can get the driveshaft on easier.

All you need to switch to a 1 speed is a savage clutchbell and assembled 1 speed tranny

Thanks I couldn't find it. Wow it will be 30 buks for both the tranny and the bell, kinda expensive since i already have the 2 speed and hpi clutch bell. How many teeth are on the stock clutch bell?

Like i said before the 2 speed is pretty unreliable. 2 speed clutch's break on me constantly, not to mention I'm lucky if the 2nd speed even engages. Just had to replace a one way bearing also. I'm still thinking about switching, i don't want to rush into spending more money.
