I purchased a Redcat Volcano STX. It works for 2 tanks of gas and then when you try and start it for the 3rd it wouln't start or when it starts the tires are running like someone is pushing the throttle button. I have replaced the clutch 3 times. The local hobby shop I take it to says it is the spring in the clutch. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong with the car? I spoke to Redcat and they told me to return the car to the hobby shop to get a refund. I call the hobby shop and they do not return my calls.

Dude welcome to the broken clutch spring club.I think all or at least most of us with the volcano, have the same problem.Replace that spring with a traxxas spring, but keep the same clutch
shoes on it.Ive wanted to run mine over a bunch of times, but if you listen to some of the guys on here. They will get you through your problem.Great group of people on here....
Just try the traxxas spring before you return it.It is a great truck once you can debug it.Ive bought 2 myself, actually 3,but one was a b-day present for my brother. We both use the traxxas spring and no more problems with it.

Thanks for your help! As soon as I received you message I took the car to a local hobby shop and had the spring replaced with a traxxis, so far (knock on wood) the car is working fine. Tonight was the 1st time that we were able to run it past 2 tanks of gas without it breaking down. I hope tomorrow I get the same results. Thanks Again.

if it's stopping when you're hitting the brakes, you need to adjust your idle speed screw. you turn the screw clockwise to make the throttle more open. you want to set the idle as low as you can without it dying.
now if the car will not run when it's sitting still and the carb is properly adjusted, then it's a broken clutch spring.

I can't tell you the number of turns because there's no telling how far in it is. you want to take the air filter off and adjust the idle speed screw until the throttle barrel is 1 or 2mm open when you have the brake applied.
Yes, you can use the Traxxas clutch spring, and until we can find a supplier for an upgraded one, I'd recommend it.
