RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Hi, i was wondering if anyone has tried to put a traxxas 2.5 engine on a volcano. I wonder if it would be quicker since thr rpm range is 50,000.
what rpm range does a .18 vertex?

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
And now I'm 1000 posts more edumacated about the Volcano. I've got a Tyrannosaurus that I picked up used, and it's my first RC car so as you can imagine I've got LOTS of questions about it. Fortunately, many of them have been addressed in this thread, and answered by some guys with what appears to be tons of experience. Thanks to all!
My machine is totally stock, though I was told that **something** in the front suspension was upgraded to HPI parts. Whether it was the upright or the steering spindle, I don't know. Ha! Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the truck so far, though I've only driven it around in my back yard once and busted the rear upright when the car flew into my house. [:@] Glad to have found so many suppliers for the parts I need - before I came here I figured I'd pretty much be buying stuff from Oz (which I did, and paid too much for in the process).
When I got it the clutch spring was broken and knowing NOTHING about these things, I tried getting the truck to idle without it wanting to pull forward, and it was pretty much impossible. I screwed the carb settings up good in the process! Anyway, once I figured out what was wrong with the clutch and fixed the spring, I've got it tuned good enough to start and run and rip around my yard. The HPI teflon clutch shoe upgrade will be what I do when my clutch goes, and at that time I'll probably be tempted enough by the direct drive and 13T bell that I'll get it too. Maybe some bearings for the wheels while I'm at it...
I don't know how much upgrading I'll be doing, unless stuff breaks. I figure this truck will get me hooked enough that I should really spend the upgrade money for this truck on buying a bigger, better truck, but by the sounds of it many folks like the Redcat/HSP stuff, so who knows? I haven't bashed with my friends yet, so I don't know how good this truck is - feels pretty quality for the price, anyway. Maybe I'll get a 1/8 Redcat MT next time, but this time 'round I'll beat on this one to see what mistakes not to make and how not to make them.
Anyway, hi, and thanks to everyone with good info in this thread!
Matt

you'll have a blast, just make sure your cluch bell and spur gear are meshed good, also make sure you have a steel clutch bell, not an aluminum one. put a magnet on it, if it sticks your ok, if not, its aluminum and replace before it eats your spur gears.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
just take the screw out for the upper arm from the hub, then tilt the whole wheel assembly, take the old dog bone out, put the new one in, put the screw back in the upper arm and your done.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Could I get some input regarding servos for the Volcano, please?
Most of the Futaba radio packages come with S3003 (standard) and/or S3010 (high torque) servos. You can get the radio with 2 of one, 2 of the other or 1 of each. Which is most appropriate for the Volcano? And if it is one of each as I suspect, which needs the high torque, steering or throttle?

Any input would be much appreciated. And thanks to all for sharing your experience. I have learned a ton.
