I just got my Tornado in this afternoon and broke in the engine according to the manual. it says after breaking in the engine, to adjust the needle from 2 turns to 1 1/2 turns. I put it to about 1 3/4 turns but I don't think the air/fuel is correct now. If I put it to full throttle it will stall. N E one have any input on settings for the needle and maybe the low end screw for best performance?

All I did was lean the low end little by little until I can make it accelerate right out of idle. Take your time with it, you will soon get the feel to tuning.

my tornado Xl runs best with the high end needle 2.5 -3 turns out.. its tuned now at about 2 3/4. jsut richen it up till it runs then tune it down

2.5 turns out is factory when you get it. I'm running mine about 2 1/4 right now. Seems to be running a temp of about 260 degrees. I set my needle valve to 3 turn out, when i broke it in. 1 1/4 is extremely lean, that buggy is prolly getting hot. Just turn the low end needle out until the head of the screw is even with the collar around it, then leave it alone. You shouldn't have to mess with that too much. If anything maybe turn it in an 1/8 to a 1/4. Richen your idle a bit when you break it in just enough to keep it running. You'll have to lean it out as the motor breaks in more. I definitely would not run your buggy with less than 2 turns out, maybe no more than 2 1/8. I would honestly leave that low end needle alone, just even it up with the collar. Maybe that will help you out.

remember this also the tiniest adjustment to the carb., will result in a big difference. So make very small adjustments while its running then check the temp, if it doesn't get too hot then lean it out a little more. Don' t make big adjustments, you will overheat that motor and then your shot...

Thanks for the replies. yea I thought around 1 1/2 was too lean, but the manual just isn't very good. even at 2 turns it doesnt seem to go well. I put mine around 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 now. works a lot better. thanks.

Tried to run Tornado for the first time..did breakin etc...car revs accelerates but wheels do not move...started on floor then found out not supposed to hold wheels down when starting..what did I screw up and how do I fix...

how do your gears look? if ok then check the grub screws that are in the drive cups that hold the dogbones (driveshafts) make sure they are tight, they may be slipping.

Got the car all done and broke in. Only problems I had was it spun loose the front drive cup on the tranny and then chewed up second gear. Had parts on-hand so it's all back together and running great. The 3.3 is way faster than the os .18cv-rx. I've had both now and the traxxas is way faster. I don't know how to post a pic but I have one in my gallery if you want to see.

I ended up using a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. Everything went fine, looks and works good.

I got my engine working great now. It doesn't stall at full throttle and it will idle fine; but I notice that it is "spitting" from the exhaust pipe. is this because its running too rich? Its at around 2 1/4 turns for the high speed,which is in the area of what a few have recommended. The engine runs fine, but I don't know if the spitting may be a problem, and if its unburned fuel, then it is just costing more since im not getting as much run time.

I'm using:
XTM Racing R/C Racing Fuel
20% NITRO
10% Oil Synthetic/Racing Castor Blend

I hope its not the fuel, because I bought a gallon of it and still pretty much full ha.

thanks for the help. fixing on cars i have no problem but when it comes to computers i'm retarded.
If it turns out right this is my smartech car with a traxxas 3.3 in it.

I would try leaning it out an 1/8 turn at a time. Some fuel coming out of the exhaust is o.k. though. It's better then running to lean and blowing it up.

you can put 2.2 truck rims and tires, you need 4 rear rims with 12 mm hex's. you will have to lower the gearing if you use larger tires. use something like the 13/18 clutch bell
