What's the worst that will happen if you put to big of a tire on your car? I put a set of the himoto truck tires on my hurricane. The tires are just as big as what's on my revo. The sts .28 seems to have enough power, no lag, but I go through clutches like nothing. that's why I melted the alloy clutch. Plastic seems to last a little longer but not much. Do they make a better clutch set-up for the hurricane?

Ehroof--The hpi threaded clutch set-up works great but of course I'm looking for more extreme gearing. I saw they have two different types of threaded clutches. The one we use is the 12mm threaded one the other is a 12mm-16mm bell. It looks like it's missing most of the bell where our clutch goes. What would you need to make the other clutch bell work? If I could use that one I could pick up at least 3 more teeth than the 18t-23t combo. Does anyone know anything about the other hpi threaded clutch bell?

o.k so far I found it's for the hpi r40. It looks like it takes a flywheel like the hurricane where it needs the brass piece that goes on the crankshaft. The clutch almost looks flat And the bell is a way different set-up. If I can make one work i can use a 21t/26t set-up which would give it tons of speed at top end but I'm still stumped if I can even make it work.

i honestly dont know about the other clutch bell, the one for the redcat is basically the same as the one on my hpi rs4 with just different sized pinions.

ehroof you have a smartech car right? Well my question is can I take the guts out of a redcat transmission and put them into the smartech one? I ordered the lightning tranny because it has better gearing and it looks like I could just replace the tranny case with the smartech one. I just wanted a second opinion from someone who owns both so they can see what i'm talking about. With the 3.3 in my smartech it has enough power to take off in second gear with no lag so adding some top end should be fine. I think.

sounds good, just let me know what you find. I'll probably end up trying it anyway. It's just not fast enough yet. You know how it is. The way it sits it's just barely slower then my bb i used the bigger clutch bell and smaller tranny on. So if I can change my gearing and make the smartech faster I will sell my bb to my friend. I won't give up any cars I can't beat in a race. Losing sucks.

New question- Anyone know where to find 4-tec upgrades? I just got the car and can't find much.

All the good stuff tower hobbies had was discontinued. I found it all through powerlineracing.com. So another $500 later I'll have my 4-tec done. All my spare cash this month went into my smartech so maybe next month.

I was just curious. I'm always looking for something faster. I just noticed that the 4-tec only claims 70mph and the cen ct5 claims 74mph. I just ordered a radar gun and after it comes in I'll list all the speeds I came up with and with what upgrades. The last race we had was the hurricane, revo and bb pro with the bigger clutch bell and it was so close we are still arguing about it. At least with a radar gun we can find the top speeds and end the argument. My only argument is if your racing a point to point race top speed means nothing if you can't reach it by the end of the race.

I hear you. They like to falsely label speeds on a ton of rc cars. They do catch your eye with the high speeds on the box though. It' really no different then redcat claiming 65mph when it more like 65kph. I might get one just to see. The only downfall is the more cars you have the more stuff you break. I thought about just opening a shop but with only 200 people in my town I would have a whopping 2 customers. Same problem with a mechanics shop here. All you get is farmers who don't want to change their oil or spark plugs. No REAL work to be done.

They all look pretty cool. I noticed with all the cars I've seen a lot of them seem to have the same basic design. What kind of top speeds are you getting? mph? I'm really thinking about trying to make my own car. After seeing and fixing so many I think the hardest part would be the differentials. It's just hard to convince my wife that I need a $2500 metal working machine. Maybe I'll get it for myself for Christmas.

just tell her you found it, someone gave it to you, its a gift from your mom and dad, lol. i get over 80mp out of the 1/8ths, the mugen i got like 93 i think, but the engine was over $700, 11 port .21. i get over 50mph from the 1/10ths. i will have to radar them. the designs are basically the same, the 1/8ths are a little different drive train with one way bearings in the drive train and belt instead of shaft driven. the 1/8ths are really a different setup, i will take a picture with the body off tomorrow if you want.

your 1/8's are belt driven? would the belt driven one be easier to change the gearing in? I noticed on my 4-tec it looks like I can pick up more speed by changing a couple pulleys.

I saw an os engine the other day that was a .12 that had 1.6hp and was good to 44,000rpm's. I think it was a modified tz but I'm not sure. When I blow up the 3.3 I think I'm going to try the os. Should make it fly but I'm not sure. I can't find any specs on the traxxas engine. If i had to make a guess I would say it's about like the 18 cv-rx with more rpm's. If nothing else it would be a good engine to build a car around.
