fitting is never the problem if it comes to stronger to me. I got stubs and they sit into the bearings further so I had to lengthen the bones 4mm so they would fit. the stub on the cvd is the same as the stock stub so all ill have to do is lengthen them 4mm.

Hi. Has anyone tried upgrading the clutch to a racing style clutch with either 2 shoes or 3? I was wondering if the HPI flywheel and clutch would work on the tsunami. I have the Himoto Mamba which is the same as the tsunami. I have a Vertex .18 engine in it.
Also do the arms for the ultra wide come in plastic or only aluminum?
Thanks

it will work, you may need a collar for it or the stock spacer. The duratrax lightwieght flyweel is a direct fit, the redcats come with a standard shaft so the hpi flyweel should fit if its for the .18 and smaller engine.

is that duratrax flywheel a 3 shoe or 2? do you happen to know the part number? Or do you know the hpi part number that would work?
thanks

the hpi flywheel I bought wont work because it has a collar and you need something with a 5mm un tapered center so as far as a three shoe flywheel i think were out of luck.

But I think that duratrax one ehroof showed us would be a good upgrade.

Im looking to use this style clutch shoe. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFUK4&P=9
Is that possible on the stock flywheel? Or would that duratrax flywheel work with this style shoe? Id really like to put a 3 shoe clutch in. I think the truck would accelerate much better.

no the 3 shoe system wont work on a 2 pole flywheel. so none of the ones posted will work.

Hi Clermont. I realize that. I just used that picture as an example of the style clutch shoe. Is there a 3 shoe flywheel that will work with these engines?

I just bought the hpi 2 shoe just from the lhs there the same type as the three shoe you showed the only thing I had to change was the pilot shaft because the stock pilot shaft has the slot cut to far to the front for the C clip for the wrap around type sheos. I havent driven it yet but I think it will work

So are you using the stock flywheel and just changing the pilot shaft?

Ok great. Wasnt sure if I could use the stock flywheel with the other shoes. That saves a little bit of a headache.
What pilot shaft did you use?

the flywheel is lighter so i would think its easier for the engine to turn so it could produce more rpm's and produce them faster.

thanks ehroof.

KeithjV im not sure what its from all i know is that its an hpi you just have to make sure the length is the same as what you have but the slot on the nut part has to be in the middle of the nut not toward the tip. If the slot is toward the tip you cant get the springs on properly. this is what mine looks like http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM720&P=M

ehroof do you know if the duratrax flywheel will work with the hpi clutch bell? Are the pins the same distance apart?

ehroof i just took a good look at things and the sh18 flywheel is allot thicker then the duratrax flywheel. So the pilot shaft wont screw all the way on and the clutch shoes wont fit all the way into the bell

Do you just use the stock flywheel?

sh flywheel? The pilot shaft from the vx18 works with it. plenty of people have used that duratrax flywheel with the vx and the sh is the same so it will work with it.

there are some pictures with the duratrax flywheel on the vx engine somewhere in the compatible parts thread.
