Ok....Im goin through my Buddies Avalanche after his big crash (another post entirely
) and I am workin on the diffs right now.
The front diff turns (fingers) Smoothly. The rear Diff feels NOTCHY (best way I can describe it), and the center Diff feels better than the Rear (seems TIGHTER) but not as smooth as the front..
This is the first time I will be diving into the Differentials and I have no experience with how they should FEEL.
Should they be Buttery Smooth and FREE (almost loose)?
Should they have some Clicky/Notchy aspect to them?
Or is there some middle ground?
Any advice or Tips would be welcome.......
Thanks in Advance.......

they should not be super loose and should not making a big clicking noise. we run 10 in front 30 in center, and 5 or 7 in rear. Just a suggestion

its supposed to be smooth, you can open it and check if the gears are in the correct position and if there is any wear

You may notice little shims... they are supposed to sit flat against the case. (going by memory, forgive me). I pinched one when reassembling the rear diff on my hurricane and it caused a real "notchy grinding feel". I disassembled it and found the pinched shim was causing extra pressure, fixed it and all is good now.

That advice helps.....LOL at least now I have some CLUE as to what I am doin......The Mechanical part is no problem for me,,,I just lack any actual EXPERIENCE with these Differentials.
When I am done usin my Buddies Diffs as a learning experience, I will tackle my own Monsoon Diffs
....
Thats the price he pays for not fixin his own STUFF....Heh,heh.....
