RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
hello all, i'm new to the forum. Got my Volcano for christmas.
I have finally encountered the first problem that has absolutely stumped me. So I bought the 2 speed trans. that is supposed to be compatible. It was labeled Himoto, looks just like all the other 2speeds I have seen. Installed it as well as the new clutch bell. Here is where it gets screwy. So a friend upgraded to the 2speed before me. His works great. And in order for him to get his to spin freely, he had to take out all the shims. None the less it WORKS. Went to install mine, encountered the same problem with the shims. The clutchbell just wont spin freely with them installed. However if reassembled with the single speed bell and all the shims, it spins fine. Moving along, when I run it with the 2speed, the car will move but not like it should. When starting on an incline it climbs very slowly, but the engine revs high. THE CLUTCH IS SLIPPING. After I kill the engine, there is definate smoke coming from the clutch bell, as well as discoloration. Took the engine off and you can see burn marks on the clutch discs. I have the White 2 shoe clutch, looks like plastic almost. I replaced the clutch and its still doing the same thing. My one speed trans. has a stripped gear so I cant swap it to see if the 2speed trans. is causing the problem. There arent any binding issues, it rolls smoothly. Im at a loss here. If you need more info let me know, as I will be checking for updates regularly. I also have a digital camera if pictures are needed. I am glad this forum is here, I hope someone can help me. Thanks, Boatman |
RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
What part of Tn you from there ? and that truck wasn't made for a 2 speed tranny because its to heavy, and going up hill with the weight of the tires alone will make it do that.

Thanks, Boatman the 2 speed is not really good for the truck due to the tire size, its too high geared, most people put a single speed in their 2 speed truck since the gearing of the 2 speed is so high. |

Nashville, east side
So seriously the truck is just to heavy. Thats crazy!!! So nobody uses the 2speed in a monster truck? Guess that makes sense, I did notice there is a considerable difference in the gear sizes. Wonder why it was offered as an "upgrade" on ebay? probably because i bought it on Ebay right!!!:) Would it work with smaller tires, or is it the overall weight that is holding it back? Man I cant believe this was the problem [:o] |

Yes it will work with smaller tires, I got 4 inch tires with a single speed and a 13 tooth clutch bell, as it say's I had a 2 speed I converted to single speed, there better all around

Man I cant believe this was the problem [:o] you would need much smaller tires to make it work decent, go with the single speed, you will like it much better, its not the weight issue its the gearing, just not meant to be in a truck, meant to be in the car or buggy. |

Hey ranger, where did you get the hummer body and is it a direct fit or easy mod to fit it to the volcano?

ORIGINAL: brettjriddle Hey ranger, where did you get the hummer body and is it a direct fit or easy mod to fit it to the volcano? anyway it fit just fine i had to open a spot for the cooling head and remove the rear cover on the body and drill some holes for the body mounts, but it looks good and it's a little different. i like it. what i'm really trying to find is a body that matches my grand cherokee. but i haven't been able to find one out there yet. |
