RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Having problems perhaps someone can help. I purchase from Redcat a volcano SV and the tsunami. I have had 3 days of hell trying to get them operate properly. I would consider myself somewhat intelligent at least capable of following directions from videos and manuals etc. I have gotten both cars to run through a tank of gas for part of the break in period. I also got the Volcano SV to do one additional tank of gas following Redcats directions for the break in period. Problem is when they run out of gas it is next to and now appears to be impossible to restart the cars! I have tried over a three-day period and even took them to my local hobby shop and they tried at an additional cost of $40. I am not trying to upset anyone but who are these people? When my order was shipped they were supposed to send to back plates for the starters I purchased. They sent one correct and one off the wall not for either vehicle. I also was supposed to receive and upgrade 2-speed transmission kit for the Volcano and they sent me a 2-speed kit for the Tsunami, which is already a two speed. They also failed to ship the battery for the starter I purchased. Anyways I am just ranting about the other problems, but if anyone has any ideas on what to do with the cars please advise. I have checked all the standard stuff glow plug, glow plug igniter and reset all needles to break in repeatedly. They have successfully fired now 3 times over three days! Any ideas?

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

It is usually much easier/faster to start the engine if you PRIME the carb in the following manner.
1.) Have a spare piece of fuel line about 6"" long
2.) Fill Gas Tank up.
3.) There is a fuel line that goes from the EXHAUST pipe to the LID of the GAS tank. Pull the fuel line OFF of the LID and push on that peice of SPARE fuel line from Step1.
4. Gently blow (yes BLOW with your mouth) into the that spare fuel line and watch the fuel flow through the line and to the Carb.
5. STOP when fuel gets to Carb (do not continue to blow fuel into the Carb or you will FLOOD the engine).
6. Engine is now PRIMED.
7. Remove the SPARE fuel line and REPLACE the Fuel line from step3 to its original location.
8. Engine will now start in 2 or 3 pulls, IF the carb is adjusted any where Near where it should be, an IF it is not Freezing cold outside.

This Method Works MUCH better (for me) than Priming by "holding a finger over the exhaust and pulling the cord a couple times".
If the engine STILL wont start easily and the Pull Start becomes noticably harder to pull,,, STOP,,,,the engine is flooded and you may break the Pull start if you continue.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

You say you got it started and you can run a tank of gas though it ? Buy a Temp Gun and take readings WHILE you are running. If Temps do not reach 200 degrees then you need to LEAN out the HSN. If Temps go above 270 and approach 300, then you gotta RICHEN the HSN.
That, along with the Priming tip I gave you should get you running reliably enuogh that you can visit the tuning threads and USE Ehroofs advice.

P.S. Be patient. Turn the Carb adjust needles no more than 1/8 turn at a time and run the car up n down the street before you make another adjustment. If you get Frustrated,,,, STOP,,,,and take a breather and THINK about all the advice that you have read.

If you take the vehicle to the LHS, they WILL make it run ($50)) but you will not Learn anything for when it stops running later on.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Thanks, I will try that. I did leave them on the vent in the house and got the Volcano started. The Tsunami I think may be a lost cause. When I started the Volcano it was just running as fast as it could. I killed it by pinching the fuel line, restarted, adjusted throttle needle; throttle trim nothing will slow it down. It seems that now the brakes or the Servo that controls them will not function now as well. When I had it running I didn’t try to lean it out till I broke it in so I didn’t damage anything. I think the truck will run but now I have the issue with the brakes or the servo.

Hi. I'm new to this and looked around in the forums quite a bit, but can't find the answer. I have the volcano sv with the pivot ball suspension and can't even find half the parts that my girlfriend and I broke during our break in process. we seem to have a control issue. Anyway, I've searched the part numbers on a clermont and allaboutfun.. with minimal to no luck. I've also searched redcat's website and using the numbers in the manuals and nothing comes up. Any direction would be a huge help. Thanks.

can you take a pic of the parts you broke. so we have an idea of what parts your looking for....
Thanks,
Adam

type the part numbers in clermontmotorsports.com's search, part should come up.

When I typed them on clermont, a couple came up and others didn't. I also tried typing them in the search for allaboutfunhobbies. I bought the car from tri county and emailed him and he's looking them up. He found some and needed descriptions on others. The car is about 1-2 weeks old, so I think it's just new numbers as a lot of the parts look the same as my friends exceed without the same suspesnion. I'll keep trying clermont since it's about an hour away from me. Thanks for the help.

i have a volcano sv. i just put on hpi rims with moab tires. when i was cleaning it out and checking screws. i noticed the baffle in the muffler and i drilled out the holes in the baffle somewhat. will that do anything at all? it seems a little faster and more responsive. or am i just too proud of my volcano? will it hurt anything if i just take that baffle out all together? or will it just drop the back pressure and wreck the engine?

ehroof 02-04-2008 01:45 PM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

you may have to richen the mix up a little since the back pressure will be droped, i dont know if its there for pressure, sound or for tuning the pipe but a few people said it sounds louder and the rc is faster, i personally dont have any experiece with it, i usually just put a tuned pipe on it.

ok i ain't taking any chances. it stays in. i like loud but i don't wanna wreck the engine. lol my wife wants a faster one than mine. think she is hooked after driving my sv for while.but she wants a 1/8 th truck. she has already asked if they make lift kits.lol and she asked if they make 6 or 8 cyl. engines as well. i told her we might have to sell the kenworth to get a v8 powered one for her.... she said ok. go figure.

Those are front wheels and won't work. Try the rear ones.

no, those are the fronts, you need rears

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

could someone fide some 12mm hex rims (2.2) prefrably blue?

ehroof 02-05-2008 04:18 PM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

i think rpm makes some blue/chrome rims

nitrozach54 02-05-2008 04:20 PM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

and are these tires small?
i know they fit the rim but the look like they have a smaller diamiter while on the rim
i want a tire thats about the same or bigger than the stock volcano wheels so if someone could find those it would be great too
:D

ehroof 02-05-2008 04:26 PM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

proline 30 series are about the same as the volcano tires, they are a direct fit for the stock rim. You could get the wabach rims and dye them blue, i have seen people dye chrome.

these rims ok?

are those tires part of the the proline 30 series?

ehroof 02-05-2008 04:29 PM

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

no those are associated, you want for a traxxas rustler/jato rear, they have the 12mm hex's. those are the ones i was talking about though but they are smaller than the stock volcano rims. the volcano rims are 2.8, these are 2.2
