RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Interesting comments you had there. I was there to see first hand the fall of the scooter industry. I believe there were two tings to blame there, number one is the laws that got in the way of riding them, number two would be the lack of parts and customer service with the imported scooters. I believe neither of these apply to 1/5th scale RC. First off you are not dealing with a ride on vehicle, therefore you have no traffic laws or liability issues to deal with. Then you have the Redcat name that seems to be doing a good job with both parts and customer support.
If you play your cards right I see the 1/5th scale becoming a big thing. Keep in mind you have a head start over the other guys with the Redcat name. I do see A LOT of potential in the 1/5th scale stuff but prices will play a big roll. |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
oh yeah, like i said i don't anything about the 1/5 scales ,from what i have seen on youtube ,they look slow to me ,i'm going to stick with the 1/10's and the 1/8's

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
We should be getting the 1/5 scale vehicles around Mid May.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ORIGINAL: RedcatRacing Kemo who has them for about 700. The cheapest I have seen is in the low to mid 800s and those have some issues from what I hear. Darin Random sellers in China on ebay along with Australia. Many of them are MCD clones (not a fan of MCD anyways). The other cheapies out there are XRC. |

After that, it's going to wheelie constantly. Gas cars are about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on, honestly. I used to race 1/10tha nd 1/8th, still race 1/10th nitro TC occasionally, but for fun, gassers can't be topped. Pull the string and go for 40 minutes on a tank of regular unleaded. No break in or maintenance to speak of, either. If you can afford them, they are one of the best ways to enjoy the hobby. |

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
I don't think it's appropriate to discuss another brand in a support forum. Why don't you wait and see what redcat comes up with, no doubt the prices will be good.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Hmm, ok :D we'll get it back on topic then.... I have looked at a few sites,e-bay, videos, And since there is not alot of up keep on them and seem like they can take a beating.... I would pay a good 1000$ if Redcat sells them ;)

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Can i make this thred in to the "official" 1/5 scale redcat thred?

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Foxy- Thats definitely more like it. That 1/5th seems to have a fair amount of power. How much does one like that go for??
The majority of them on youtube seem underpowered to me. I'm used to the scooters I used to build that would take a 200lb rider to 35-40mph; I would expect considerably more out of a 15lb RC car. Like I said before, I believe price will make or break the whole 1/5th scale thing. I do not see how they could possibly be in the $1,000 range when the engines are little more then the cost of a basic nitro engine. |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
yea, all the vids i have seen of the 1/5 sound like the thing just boggs the whole time amd go's no where. that 1/5 look tight:D

The cost of large scale cars is proportionate with their size, and the amount and thickness of the metals which must be employed. A top dollar racing gas engine will set you back $1000 comfortably on it's own. The basic stock engine s are very cheap though. You can get a lot more power out of these engines with your pipe choice, and head mods (porting etc) make a big difference too. $1000 for a decent quality 1/5th gas car is something of a holy grail. The good ones cost a lot more. |

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Us who have worked for 10 years or more, in order to be able to afford such things on our own, have earned the right to this side of the hobby. ;) They are big money, but worth it.
For what it's worth, I expect the redcat cars will be cheaper than $1000. The HPI Baja (itself costs around $1000 RTR) has caused an explosion in the market, and things should start to get more affordable now. It's all good. |

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
we probably wont get THAT luck
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ORIGINAL: RedcatRacing We have yet to set the pricing yet, but I can assure you they will be more than $600. I am not sure where the poster has found another 4 wheel drive 1/5 for this price range, but if you know of one, please let me know. The lowest price 4 wheel drive 1/5 is a lot more than that. The Smartech new 4x4 models which I guess would be considered the closest similar one out there (although ours will be better) has a street price of about $1300. I have seen some 2 wheel drive older vehicles out in the market for cheap, but they have been around for years and are no comparison. Darin |
