RE: 1/5 scale redcats

Dennis you have made a great point there about having demo models. Every time I go run at the local parks or track I try to bring one of each model that I have in case anyone is interested in trying them out. Letting people get some hands on time with these is the best form of advertising you can get.

Darin- You may want to consider some type of dealer sample program to allow dealers to get demo models at a discounted price.

Derek if you have a full blown hobby store dont be shy about asking the manufactures for demo's. I get them from horizon, and others all the time. I have cars, trucks, planes, heli's and all. They will give them to you if you push the issue.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

Unfortunately I do not have a store just yet, so I don't have much weight to push with. lol Free dealer samples would be fantastic but discounted samples would sure help too. Like you said it really does make a world of difference to have a demo model for someone to test out. Just some food for thought for Darin.

You don't go buy a new car without a test drive right??;)

Darin is a good guy, I'm sure he could come up with a plan. I have been working with Darin for years.

What's up with the name change. It was landslide before and now it's inferno. I kind of liked landslide better, but i guess it dosn't really matter.

are you going to throw some dealers names in a hat and pick one to do some testing on them? I would be more than happy to test it on my track :)
That's funny you said that, I suggested the same thing a long while back when I was talking to Darin about them, lol. I like the throwing names into a hat thing though, it's alot more fair.

Honestly though, weather we get one or not, we will be demoing one, just like we do with the rest of the stuff, like you were saying about the helicopters. You have to be demoing something or one of them for them to sell good, people like to see this stuff run and how it sounds and moves before they buy them.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

I am probably going to change the name 10 times before we get them. lol.

I stress over names and like to put them out there before I pick one.

Regarding samples of them, we are getting 2. Yes only 2 and we will use them for pictures, video, testing etc at Redcat.

After that we will get our first shipment in May. At that point, we will start to sell them as there are about 20 dealers that have expressed interest in stocking them immediately when they arrive.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

Any plans for setting up a dealer sample program like we have been discussing?? Other companies I have worked with have programs where they will give a large discounts off dealer cost for demo models. Allowing a customer to get hands on with a product is a powerful tool in sales. When a customer comes in that is not sure if they want a truck or a buggy, 1/10th or 1/8th; it is nice to have demo models they can fire up and try out. Any thoughts on this Darin??

When I talk about a dealer sample program I am not talking about the 1/5th scale stuff specifically, I mean the entire Redcat line.

RedcatRacing 03-14-2008 12:04 AM

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

I am always thinking that's my big problem.

:)

Thing is we have never had a dealer sample program before. I understand that the 1/5 scales cost a lot more and some dealers may not want to invest in something they have never seen before. I totally understand this and surely will not rule it out. I think that something like this can surely happen but lets wait until we get closer to actually having them in stock and I will come up with something.

Of course my goal is to get as many dealers to have one of these sitting on their shelves as possible.

Dont sweat it, but of course you guys understand that nobody will get free demos. We are not HPI or Traxxas. Its just me a and a few guys trying to make a name for ourselves. hehe

Are the 1/5th gonna come with the same fm radios as the rest of redcats line? The one's people are having trouble with? I have AM on both of mine with no trouble at all. Just thought I'd ask. I'd hate to hit somebody with one of those monsters cuz the radio went crazy. [:o]

RedcatRacing 03-17-2008 02:50 PM

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

We are currently testing different radios for the 1/5 and they will all most likely come with failsafes included.

We have shipped thousands of vehicles with the current FM Radio system and have had very few problems. There are some people on the forums that have experienced issues but when you look at how many we have shipped and how many issues have been reported, the number is far less than 1%. We have to also assume that some of the problems could have been due to normal interference, loose batteries, dead batteries, loose connections or otherwise. When you put that in there, the rate of issues is even lower. There is a chance that in our first shipments of FM radios, there could have been an issue but those have been fixed over time as the factory is always making revisions and changes based on what they find.

Lastly, we are changing all FM Digial Radios on the 1/8 scale models to non digital and that will happen in the next week. We decided to do this about 45 days ago when we ordered our shipment from the factory solely due to the confusion eveyone was having with figuring out all the options on the digital. We also saw some recommendations from some of you that said, get rid of the digital and just go FM non digital. So those of you that made that recommendation we appreciate it as it should clear up a lot of confusion on how to use them.

hopefully the fivers are gettin digital, and maybe 75 mhz so more than 6 can run at once. It'd be one nice luxury, and fewer people would upgrade to a different radio. which one has better features: TR80127 or TR80128?

Now speaking of batteries...

what packs will come with the fivers? Normal packs assembled for these are with 5 sub c cells assembled in hump pack form. 3000 mAh packs would be great, smaller packs would just drain way too fast.

The name Inferno is taken already, by a staple model the world over (the Kyosho buggies and GT have been trading under that name for 10 years), Landslide is a good name for the truck, go with that. Why don't you run a compo in the forum to choose some names. Offer the winner a car at cost or something. Just a thought.

The guy that came up with the name 'Pentium' for Intel, came up with it as a result of Intel running a competition within the company. For his creative genius, and saving his company millions in marketing, he got...wait for it........ a bottle of champagne!! lol.

Yes Typhoon will be our new 1/8 scale on road car which will be available end of April.

The contest has been brought up before so why not throw it out there. A few of you guys have asked me to do this, but the name has not been that important since I have time, but now is as good a time as any, so thanks to all that mentioned it.

I just made a thread for the name contest, if Foxy or someone can make it sticky that would be great.

anywho... on my wishlist to see :D

Metal gears (pinion and spurs)

Sub-C hump pack receiver pack (NiMH):

Digital Radio (the better of the two I asked about before)

and maybe a tuned pipe? The top 2 are near must, the digital radio is just a luxury for such a big vehicle.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats

Kemo, if I had to choose one thing to have on the car that is an option on an FG or the HPI, it would be alloy engine mounts. The torque these motors pull twists the chassis like it was a candy cane. Alloy engine mounts are absolutely essential.

Many people including racers, advocate the use of a plastic spur, as it gives the drivetrain somewhere to 'release' the energy when you mess it up, rather than destroying dogbones, drivecups, wheels, tyres, etc, all you do is strip a $5 spur gear.

With you on the rx pack though, that would be nice to see.
