RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ORIGINAL: Foxy Alright, since a couple of people have asked, the FG range is kind of the middle market of 1/5th RC. It's not racing quality out of the box, but it's of significantly better quality than most other models. That particular car has about 900E in it right now. It's completely stock in that video, even the horrible 'heli can' exhaust system, which starves the engine of it's low end power. It has a Zenoah 26cc engine, they're like the novarossi of gas engines. Only the FGs come with Zenoahs, all the others come with the chinese copy engines, known as CY. They're not bad, but the Zen's pull harder. Also, try 30lb RC car, not 15. ;) The cost of large scale cars is proportionate with their size, and the amount and thickness of the metals which must be employed. A top dollar racing gas engine will set you back $1000 comfortably on it's own. The basic stock engine s are very cheap though. You can get a lot more power out of these engines with your pipe choice, and head mods (porting etc) make a big difference too. $1000 for a decent quality 1/5th gas car is something of a holy grail. The good ones cost a lot more. I assume the stock can is gutted on that, sure sounds that way. You really need to change over to an expansion chamber to get the power out of these engines. What model Zenoah is in that 900E?? G260RC?? |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
This is too beautiful not to post. This is a guy I worked with in the scooter industry, looks like a lot of old dealers jumped on board with the 1/5th scale RC stuff.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
that thing looks sweet. After reading, I am not sure if I will ever be getting a 1/5. Too much money for me. Although if I save up long enough I might be able to get one. I can't wait to hear what they perform like.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ORIGINAL: Foxy It is indeed a G260RC, the stock can is not gutted either in this video. It's a very nice engine, I'm very pleased with it and the tune seems to be just right. I have an RN Fat Tuning Monster Power S pipe waiting to go on it, this will make a huge difference. This truck is about to see $700 worth of upgrades fitted in the next month or so. |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
OK, Well.. I hate to whine but I'll say it.. I get told to wait and basically get back on topic when I asked about a couple things about "another brand", And now its ok for everyone else? especially the Mod who told me?.....Wanna shine some light on this??[:@]
|
RE: [Deleted]
I never said you should wait, it was a suggestion, nor did I tell you specifically to get this back on topic. I just said I don't think it's appropriate necessarily, to lead the discussion towards the FG brand. This is a redcat forum. But then when someone else asked as well as you, I thought, what they hey, I can give them both an answer, and steer it away from there, which I did. The subject quickly moved onto engines and pipes (important discussion for 1/5th). I hope the forum hosts don't mind. Thanks guys...

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ORIGINAL: Foxy I don't think it's appropriate to discuss another brand in a support forum. Why don't you wait and see what redcat comes up with, no doubt the prices will be good. |
RE: [Deleted]
Yep, you can get all that stuff, and with a good pipe the mods make big differences.
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
You can get all sorts of different things for these engines... alcohol carbs to run methanol... big bore kits for bigger displacement (26cc, 27cc, 29cc and 30.5cc), reed valve conversions, performance carbs, clutch springs, performance cranks, domes to change compression ratio... the list keeps on going.
Its a lot more economical than nitro in the long run... more economical to run, and best of all, they hold a tune! |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
I used to play around alot with pocket bikes and I noticed on them, that any sort of mod or engine hop-up increases the hp like crazy, and pocket bikes are still only 39-50cc, But the more I think about it, the more I want to buy one of these monsters:D
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
ya thees monsters are fun i was playing with one on saturday it was a hpi baja 5b and damn that is fun!
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Not the best video in the world, but it's something to watch.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Thanks for sharing the video, what track was that filmed at??
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
That is in China.
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
That is cool! but 1K that is a lot and i dont think i will be geting a 1/5 scale :( i have a idea i will make one!
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Good to hear it'll have the cy26rc engine as a base engine. It should help it launch over the jumps better than it did in the video with that 23cc engine.
Might be time to contact Jetpro to see if they can get a tuned pipe designed for the buggy and truggy :D |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Few updates have been made to the specs.
Check it out here: http://www.redcatracing.com/15scale.asp Thanks Darin |
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Hey Darin, do you have any of the 1/5ths in your hands yet??
|
RE: 1/5 scale redcats
Nope. Not here yet. I hope to get my 2 samples within 2 weeks.

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
are you going to throw some dealers names in a hat and pick one to do some testing on them? I would be more than happy to test it on my track :)

RE: 1/5 scale redcats
having a track, and a store, pretty much what you demo, you sell. I demo the eflite heli's all day long and I cant keep them in stock. I also have someone(I am not good enough yet) demo a blade 3d foamie in the parking lot and in the store and it has a 36" wing span.
So my point being, letting dealers demo stuff is a good selling feature for the store and the manufacturer. |
