Ok lets call it the "Zirconia Classic". After all its the thought that counts. Maybe we could put it in a "Jareds" box. That would be kinda like putting a saito in a YS box!!
And Skids I can see you have already decided you might not win??? What has happened to your championship confidence in this off season?
I like the idea of having a rock in my possession prior to the start of the race, that way if I mid air again, I can trade it in for a new plane. If I win, Im that much farther ahead with the wife!!
And as far as just buying her one, we all have.... well except for Shawn I guess!

A smart racer knows his limitations. I believe I can win, but know that I may not win. Winning is clearly a combination of pilot skill, the right aircraft, and LUCK. I have been told by many that I am very lucky. I just try to make the luck count at the right time.

That's right Marty, get all that fancy new stuff. You are going to need it if you plan to run against the Macchi.
Ok I took the suggestion of soldering the tail wheel arrangement. Problem is I soldered it on the wrong side. Going to have to wait until Monday to switch it. I did get the tail surfaces hinged and sorted out the throttle linkage. I had the fuel tank all plumbed up with fuel dots all ready to go and found out there just isn't enough room. I had to ditch them and hook the lines to the regulator. To fuel the airplane and release pressure from the tank I'm going to have to pull the lines off at the regulator. I enlarged the cutout around the regulator to make this easier. I'm actually feeling better not having as many connections in the fuel system. I will leave as much length in the lines in case I split one I would be able to just trim the split off and still have enough line.

Maybe after we have the Big Kahuna, The 2 day YS race we could ask JR if he would consider a "He went to Jareds" Race with a Diamond Ring for the prize that we husbands could use to get all of our wives there and fully support what we do?
It would show we are racing for "her".

Dave,
$6000 thats an upgrade now!!
Good job. You need to have your wife talk to Shawns.
As far as the new technology and my new JR radio, it is time to do it.
There will be no more JR DSM rx's available soon, only Spektrum, so I am stepping into the JR DMSS world.
I will have a bunch of Spektrum Rx's and remotes for sale pretty cheap.
Shawn maybe with the money you save buying my old stuff you can afford a rock for the caller!

No no no Dave's wife is not going to talk to mine. lol. Marty I got out of Spectrum and JR 2.4 a few yers ago and went with all Hitec gear. To me it was a let down that JR went away from touch screen. I loved my 10X. Prior to that I had been nothing but JR since I bought a Galaxy 8 back in '89. Now I see that look on your face, the Hitec 2.4 tech is actually Multiplex and has a great reputation. I also like that I can get software updates and download to the TX via my PC. Not trying to sell anyone on the system just letting you know I am happy with the performance to this point. Being that the A9 cost 1/3 of what your system cost I'm running out of excuses not to go buy a rock.

neither, Im looking at either an A200 or a DA150 or DA170.
If I do the A200 on alky it will be 230-240
If I do the DA150 on Alky it will be 210-220
If I do the DA 170 on Gas it will be around 190-200
BJ If you want it, it is yours. The USRA has the Experimental Class coming back and with the A200 it will be a screamer.
It is also a legal Sportsman class.
Come get it, you know the way!!
Ill make you a deal on it

Nice Marty. Rick Mada tried selling me an unlimited last year. I should have taken him up on it. Oh well today was aileron day. Got them cut off the wing, faced with 1/4" balsa, sanded out and hinged. The torque rod installation was next. I used a method that one of the guys uses over on the Q40 forum and simply routed some slots and dropped the torque rods in. Worked pretty well. Not having much else to do today I finished up and installed the servo and linkage as well. A keen eye will see that the ailerons are top hinged. The bottom will have a Mylar gap seal.

Well if you can move the aileron by hand and not move the servo then you might have an issue. What you can do if do have flutter is to put a piece of hing tape on the corner of the aileron/wing near the tip. this adds some stiffness to the aileron. I do this on the faster electric race planes. some of them have torque rods also.

I use spektrum telemetry in my planes. It reads RPM, Head temp(engine), GPS (speed, altitude and location), battery voltage and G-force. This info is displayed on an Ipad. I can set it up where I can record the location of the pylons and then fly the course and see if I am cutting of flying to long.

Marty, I just do the math based on 1,600 ft per lap. As of right now the airplane is done and ready for paint. It's all assembled and actually in flyable condition except for paint and weighs 6lb 3 oz. I'm going to have to be conservative with the paint to make 6.5 lbs. There are a few things I want to do that may drop that 3 oz. Drilling the spinner back plate. bending new legs to get away from the heavy Dubro axles. Maybe swap out the fuel tank for a 14 oz. I'm sure I will find a couple more things to shave some grams.
