Greetings fliers.
My name is Karoly and live in Seattle, just off of Lk. Washington. I have not flown for over 5 yrs. as our small group, after 10 yrs. has lost the flying field and since I have taken to rc boats. A kick in the butt, but I miss flying immensely. I still have a few of my planes left on my shelf as just could not part with them. In the past,I have flown my 71" Citabria on floats for several Summers, but after a minor mishap and a slightly damaged, but repaired floats, I took to boats.
I have a set of EZ Sports Aviation floats that use to be available many years ago. Cant find it now. It is the lightest foam with a thin layer of ABS covering and would like to get another set to put on my Tsunami and see how it handles. I just read several of the low wings on floats post and the pictures looked inviting.
Has anyone heard of the floats I mentioned, it is a company in Japan that imported for a while. I would also like to hear from those who have flown a Tsunami,(a very fast plane that takes off in 15' feet and goes vertical forever.) or similar plane on floats. Light plane with a .46, but not sure if it can handle the stress of floats.
Looking forward for your input and suggestion on type /brand of floats to put on a 5# low wing, 51" wing span.

I don't know anything about EZ Sports Aviation floats, Karoly, but if I were to put floats on my Tsunami, I'd go with the same ones I built for my 72" span Sig 1/6 scale J-3 Cub: 30" floats built up of balsa, covered with Ultracote, scaled down from Goldberg's 36" floats. They weigh just over 15 oz. including struts & water rudder.
I'd probably run 1/8" wire front struts down from the standard L.G. mounts and rear struts from the wing T.E. holddown bolts. I'd also run a 3/32" brace from top of front struts to bottom of rear struts and use 3/32" spreaders.

Thank you Dave and Jim for your reply. By the way, the wing span is 60" not 51". I will contact EZ dealer or just use the slightly dented one I already have.

After some research I have opted to either buy a set of the f/g floats from hobby lobby, a bit pricey, but I just don't have the time to build like I used to. (I have built probably over 10 kits in the past 10 yrs, but life got a bit more complicated.) Anyway, found several supporting articles in favor of the Lanier Mariner ARF 40, and found on from Tower Hobbies for $249. That was the cheapest price I couild find. So I ordered one. I was also looking for SeaCommander floats, but they must have gone out of business as I got no response from their e-mail.

Hey Scott, I live just a block off Lk.Washington, up from Andrews Bay. I mostly run my rc boats, 57" catamaran and a deep vee in the bay. Getting close to 50 mph off my v hull. In the winter, between storms, the bay gets like glass and no water weeds to foul the rudders. Thats when it's ideal for float flies. There is a group I sometimes run into that meets regularly on Saturdays and flies in the bay. So how far you live from there? Perhaps we can meet sometime and exchange ideas. Would like to see your set up.
