I built a set of great planes 60 floats and am ready to mount to plane. Heres the problem: My manual found its way into a bucket of motor oil and I cannot remember what the manual stated about how far the floats should protrude out in front of the plane. I assume it will be based on where CG is. If anyone could answer that or has a copy of the last few pages of the manual I would really appreciate it because great planes wants like $3000 to send me another manual. I think i can figure out the hardware setup for the rudder, but once again I would really appreciate any help so i can finnish this project. thanks.

Put the step under a point 3/4 to 1" behind the balance point of the model...projected down whe the plane is sitting level above the floats. If your floats are sized properly, they will then stick out a bit in front of the prop. GP .60-size floats are HUGE and will handle most .90 size planes.

Thanks. the floats are huge. I built them for my kadet senior which has an 80 inch wingspan. they came out really nice after glass and paint. do you think they are too big for the Kadet? I have an OS 61 up front.

Those floats are around 42" long and will work just fine, although they are heavy. My brother has a senior on 34" floats and they work just as well. The general rule of thumb is to use floats that are 75%-80% of the fuselage length, which makes the 42" floats the right size. The reason the 34" floats work is that the Kadet is so light it doesn't need the floation provided by the larger floats.
As Jim suggested, place the float step under the CG or a little behind it. Keep the top of the floats parallel with the bottom of the wing, and adjust the height so that there is around 2-3 inches between the top of the floats and the bottom of the prop arc. The spacing between the two floats should be around 25% of the wing span. Hope this helps.....Seaplane

Senior Kadets MAY be the ultimate floatplane. WHen I make floats for them I make 39" long foam cores (40" finished). As Seaplane said, the SK is so light, it does not need oversize floats. WHite foam floats are MUCH lighter than those GP Built-up "cinderblocks". I have seen guys fly SKs from water with .45 2-stroke, .60 2S, up to .91 4-stroke. It works to flatten the wing a bit, and to increase the size of the ailerons.

Can anyone pls send pics of the setup on the senior kadet with these 60 size floats? the info you guys have provided has allowed me to install the float mounts into the bottom of the fuse and i am just waiting for the hard mounts to cure. I am specifically interested in the cable routing from the float rudder to the tail rudder. The kit came with a stabilizer to mount at the back of the fuse. does this help the plane fly true with floats on? or is it just a nice to have item? shouldnt be difficult to install, just wondering.
