Default Herr Aquastar with a T tail?

I bought a Herr Aquastar at a swap meet, built. I understand they don't fly well as a rudder only plane, so I'm in the process of adding ailerons. I've also heard they don't ROW well without some mods, but I notice whoever built it added the chine rails everyone has recommended. I plan to power it with a Hobby Lobby Nippy outrunner and a TP 1320 11.1 Lipo. My estimated weight is puttting it somewhere around 19 oz, but thanks to the ailerons I now have more wing area. In addition I'm going to add some upthrust. If it still won't ROW (keep in mind I haven't ever flown it, so it might), I'm thinking about modifying it to have a T tail in line with the center of the motor the same way my Ace Seamaster does. This will keep the horizontal stab out of the spray, and in line with the prop wash. In theory, I believe this will allow more elevator authority to keep the nose high during acceleration, hence no plowing, and it might actually get on plane. What do you think?

Yep. T-tail would do what you say. Just be careful not to let it get too heavy.

As far as linkage to the elevator: I always thought it was stoopid the way the seamaster nyrod is s-shaped. You can come up thru the fin and not have to recurve the nyrod. Every time you curve nyrod there is more friction and more slop. You just need a special control horn that goes forward instead of up. There is one in the hobby lobby catalog. It's the middle one in the pic. When I made a t-tail I fabbed my own control horn from 1/16 balsa.

I sure hope you didnt use 1/16 balsa for your control horn. You'll have an accident waiting to happen. I make my own but I use 1/16 ply they are just fine for small aircraft but I wouldnt recommend them for anything large than a .10 powered plane
