RE: Which 4 stroke engine do you recommend?

While the debate on power system is over, thought I'd chime in for others that may read this thread.

I have several O.S. and several Magnum four-strokes, and love them both. My Magnums have run...

RE: Tank height/air draw

New update 10-5-04:

Discovered a troublesome Needle Valve allowing air at WOT.
Swapped it out and she runs sweetly.
Two flights today running out 13-minute clocks.
Seemed to lean out a...

RE: Tank height/air draw

Updat:

After spending FOUR HOURS one day fine-tuning the lo vs. hi jets, I got it to idle smoothly, transition smoothly, and run well at WOT.
Flew it about 8 flights since then, including...

RE: Tank height/air draw

Thanks guys, for info and insight.

I'm not sure I can get the tank height ideally suited, although I can lower the engine mount, or try the 90 degree mounting position.

I did not fly the...

RE: things we say when we crash

My co-pilot crashed his racer on takeoff Sunday.

Rolled left and kept rolling 'til she nosed-down into the pines.

I simply looked at him (in front of a small crowd of family spectators) and...

RE: Tank height/air draw

Thanks for the pointers, Dar.

As mentioned above, she ran out the whole tank of fuel, even though the TOP of the tank is about 1/2" BELOW the jet.
The high speed valve appears to be open more...

RE: Tank height/air draw

Thanks for the pointers, guyz.
I opened up the nose belly yesterday and cut out as much of the former as I could, and reconfigured for a Du-Bro 10 oz. tank isolated on all sides by foam. Ended up...

Tank height/air draw

Hope some of you engine junkies will have some quick answers for me.

I bought a GMS .47 (remote needle) and broke it in last week. Ran pretty good for a day, though quite rich at low/idle, and...

RE: 4 stroke fuel vs. 2 stroke

Thanks for the feedback, folx. I have a clearer understanding of the issue now, and can use the fuel with confidence.

RE: Mid-Air Stories

Just experienced my first mid-air two weeks ago.
I fly out back behind the barn with my son-in-law, Lightman. He's flying a Tower Kaos with a Tower .46.
I was flying my rebuilt Hobbico Superstar...

RE: 4 stroke fuel vs. 2 stroke

carrell:

Thanks for your reply. I've been reading the long FAQ on fuel Q&A in the Engines & Fuels Forum (should probably have looked there first).
A guy at an LHS told me this fuel would be...

4 stroke fuel vs. 2 stroke

I inadvertently grabbed a jug of "4 cycle blend" fuel.
It's Byron 10% Nitro w/16% castor/synthetic oil blend. The top of the label reads "4 cycle blend".
What's the difference?
Can I run this...

RE: Hangitme Hobbies / NoBS Batteries- A Pleasure to deal with

NiCad:

Thanks for the info!
What I do know about NiCads (largely applies to NiMH, too) with certainty is that recharging a batt that's not fully discharged can develop a "cell memory", ...

RE: Hangitme Hobbies / NoBS Batteries- A Pleasure to deal with

Can you elaborate as to how the battery was over-charged?
Does this mean that leaving a stock battery on a stock wall-wart charger can damage the battery if I exceed the nominal 8-10 hours charge...

RE: In a tree!

A quick (but sad) follow-up to the Phoenix's story.

I was so glad to get that plane back (I'm emotianally attached to it, it was my first) that I sat her on the bench and told her I'd rebuild...

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't just do it yesterday!
You may not believe it either!

I got my plane stuck about 40' up a poplar tree, left it overnight, and it started raining the next...

RE: Who fly,s at home?

My co-pilot and I (he's my son-in-law) trained ourselves and fly exclusively from my backyard runways. They're grass, of course.

Runway 1 is about 12' wide and 150' long. It's almost level (ish)...

RE: 40 sized bipe?

Dymond RC is offering a 40 size (50" or 54" span) Tiger Moth ARF for $149. (rc-dymond.com)

Kyosho also makes a Tiger Moth.

For an oversized engine, I would think a Pitts or Staggerwing...

RE: Concerning servo control horns

Other uses for all those included control horns:

On a piece of fishing line, makes a great cat toy.

With a treble hook, makes a good sunfish lure.

Just the right size for a shim to...

RE: What to do when it's too windy to fly?

Wow, you guys/gals are idiots!
I love it!
I honestly thought I'd be the only idiot bush pilot to say "Wind? What d'ya mean?".
Like the Texan, we learned to fly in 10-15 mph average winds!
I...
