RE: Building a Custume Made Speed Plane

Glorfindel , your speed plane, equipped with the right engine, should be a real contender in the absolute first R/C speed league worldwide. Not much more to say here. [8D]

Iā€™ll send you a PM...

RE: Building a Custume Made Speed Plane

Guys, we donā€™t want to compare a sport engine design and rpm output with the most sophisticated engine design todays (integral piston liner, no inner bearing ring, double balanced crank and...

RE: Building a Custume Made Speed Plane

Hi, if you donā€™t consider a DF engine for this speed project, this ā€œall out speed planeā€ will not be an ā€œall out speed planeā€ due to the fundamental lack of rpms.

So the only...

RE: How to retrofit a Ducted Fan Engine for Propeller Use

Hello,

you should ask in the "Extreme Speed Prop Planes" forum. These guys know their job.[sm=biggrin.gif]

RE: exaust timing on os91vrdf ?header length?

Hi Greg,

exhaust timing is 172 degrees.

For an in-flight rpm of 23K set the #1190 pipe at 30 cm, measured from glowplug to mid of the pipe belly.

RE: .15 or .21 speed/sport engine

Yes indeed a fun project looking cool, but alas nothing for speed. This is basically a modified delta layout, very unsuited for speed - as well as all swept back designs (induced drag...).

Look...

RE: .15 or .21 speed/sport engine

So, as a beginner a F5D plane would be the wrong choice - these are suited for the experienced pilots.

I think you have to define your target more precisely:

What is your maximum speed so...

RE: .15 or .21 speed/sport engine

Hi gals;)

to make this converted car Nova .12 run 30 to 33000 rpm maximum you need a non-muffled pipe, a prop like 4.5*4.5" or 4*5 or 4*6 and a venturi speed carb with 5.5 mm bore. No more rpm...

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Hello King & Dave,

I would like to refer to combatpiggs speed plane project which does serve as a promising guideline for competitive speed for any .15, .21 .40 or bigger sized project:

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Hello to all delta design lovers,

please donā€™t rack your brains about the question:

ā€œWhy is my delta not as fast as I expected?ā€

Again, this Q already has been answered...

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Hi cobratraxxas69,

modern F3D FAI planes consistently run about 210 mph (averaged) during a pylon race.

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Yeah, back to the topic!

Below attached is a picture of a ā€œpureā€ speed airframe, well suited for the MB .40 Profi FAI for instanceā€¦

BTW, alas not commercially available.

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Hello Ed,

I would like to agree. The so called ā€œboogie-boardā€ has little to do with serious speed design.

In the past I myself gave lotta tips to the ā€œextreme speed folksā€ in this...

RE: have you busted 200mph???

Yep ā€“ with a small engine (modified .21) + correct sized CF prop

Do we need engines with lotta cubic inches and HP for our 200 mph target, or is it more a matter of sophisticated aerodynamics?...

You're wrong James. Combatpigg has much much background knowledge [sm=thumbup.gif] - believe me he just simulates from time to time :)

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Hi Rude!

So letā€™s talk about the ā€œINTEGRAL SPINNERā€œ

Thereā€™s no real alternative to these multi-part spinners when entering 20K using 1.5ā€œ and bigger spinners. So itā€™s not...

RE: HB 20 Racing engine??

OK, this is the 'normal' HB engine. 70s engine technology. Only little if not suited for speed application (timing + porting too tame). [:'(]

RE: HB 20 Racing engine??

Here's a pic of the ā€˜vintageā€™ 1986 HB.21 Grand Prix engine (Helmut Bernhard Feinmechanik ). Itā€™s a good performer and will turn up to 26K reliably. The price was about 150 bucks. But spare...

RE: HEY! LET'S BUILD A SPEED PLANE!!!

Hi CP,

the size of the fin is fine.

The fin & stab are also 'begging' for nice fillets :)

Thus, as all the speed freaks reading this thread do realize such a pure speed plane project...
