You and Myth Busters should inform the parents of 7 year old Brendon Mackey that their son was not really killed on July 4, 2013 by a bullet that penetrated the top of his skull while he and his...

I'd like to second your opinion. I lurk these forums and have seen the mantra many times about Magnum and ASP engines being a "crap shoot" as far as quality. I have at this writing in my garage...

RE: Evolution .52NX Glow Engine kills in flight

I've had that problem when using fuel with too high nitro content. The solution was either to add an extra head gasket or shim or to use a lower nitro fuel like 5% or FAI. The Tower Pro and GMS...

RE: Valley View RC Brand Engines

I believe "motor" only refers to a device that does work using electromotive force (i.e. force derived from electromagnetism)

RE: CS 40 Engine-Does anyone know???

I've had two of them. Typical chinese clone. Seems to run best on 5% nitro of less with some added castor oil. I ran them for several years with no problems. Have real chrome bore, true ABC. ...

RE: ST G40 drive washer repair

You may find that you can use a prop driver off of another brand of engine if you have an old one lying around. I recently used a SuperTigre .40 prop drive on an ASP .46 that was missing one. I...

RE: TT GP-42 vs OS LA 46

I have number of .40 and .46 LAs and TT .42GPs. Like you, I like the bushing engines for ease of use and maintenance. I prefer the TT 42GP to the 46LA as I get more power from it on the props I use...

RE: os-60

If it is truly "new in box" you would probably be better off to sell it to a collector and use the proceeds to buy a modern .61. Lot's more power and parts availability.

RE: A day that will live in infamy ?

After studying history in more depth, I've come to question the common narrative that Germany's invasion of Poland was the cause of WWII when I learned that our ally, the Soviet Union, invaded...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

About 7 or eight years ago I disassembled an ASP .61 engine and removed the wrist pin and rod. Due to an interruption I did not mark the piston's original orientation. The piston on this engine had...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

I just thought of something. Isn't kerosene a petroleum distillate? Guys flying diesel engines are mixing kersone, diethyl ether, and castor oil to make fuel. Maybe the ether allows the castor to...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

You are 100% correct regarding a "new old-stock" engine being gummed up with assembly lube/storage preservative. I bought a NIB OS .61SF that I used methanol and acetone to loosen up. His...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

If it is truly castor residue, then WD40 assisted by heat from a heat gun should soften it. Also Dawn Power Dissolver (available at Walmart) will remove it. Sadly, I suspect it is not castor...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

If a section of the skirt is broken out on the exhaust side of the piston and thereby venting the crankcase when the piston is at or near TDC the engine will not run well with a muffler or throttle...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

Just curious, why were you attempting to remove the piston pin from an engine that you describe as nearly new with a couple of hours on it? The TT .46 I was working on had a worn out small rod end...

RE: OS 61FX Piston

I did the same thing to a Thunder Tiger .46 three years ago. I broke out a sizeable chunk of the piston skirt. I felt sick, but said, "What the heck" and dressed the edge of the break on the piston...

RE: HB PDP .40 Question

A P.S. to last post. It could be the head gasket was removed so the engine would run better in FAI or nitro-less fuel. I have had no problem running these engines on FAI fuel in the summer here in...

RE: HB PDP .40 Question

Yes, the engine uses a head gasket, at least the 4 that I own use one. I have bought several older models at swap meets that have been equipped with HB 40 and 61 engines, both the loop-scavenged...
