Glue

I recommend using epoxy that comes thin to start with. It's usually called something like "Epoxy finishing resin".

How much to stock a hobby shop?

This is so true, and so disheartening. I used to think that Hobbico should divest itself of Tower to avoid this problem, but lately I'm starting to think it wouldn't help that much. Tower's main...

Where can I buy Homasote

I'm getting the idea that Homosote is getting less popular, so it may get harder to find. If you're looking for something to put on a table so you can stick pins in it, sheetrock is cheap and works...

ARF's versus KIT's the saga continues

Hey, this could be the start of an interesting thread on its own.

Let's see, I've been in the hobby a few years, and I've seen 5 planes come apart in the sky:

1. Wing dowel broke, lawn...

First R/C field webcam?

Great idea! I have had this thought for a long time, but, like others, our field doesn't even have electricity at this time. My idea was to see if we could get in with the WeatherBug folks. They...

Re: Basic Trainer Question

It's a good idea to check before buying a kit (or ARF). Some airplanes in the 48" wing span category do have fixed wings (Dazzler, Pizzazz, etc). And some larger planes, sometimes the wing is one...

more than one image

RC Universe makes it so easy to attach photos that a lot of people don't realize you can in-line them as well. The catch (I think) is that you have to have a server for the pictures. But assuming...

Re: learning without an instructor

In addition to what's been said, flying the airplane is only a small part of the learning process. For most newbies at our club, the first hurdle is assembling the plane so that it is flight-worthy....

Voltwatch accuracy

Many of the "plane finder" devices will beep if the battery gets too low. I use one of them *and* the Volt Watch. I wouldn't fly a plane without either.

Re: All Depends on the Bullet Proof Jacket.-

There are several Internet web sites that say that this story of the Winnebago driver is a complete fabrication, and there was no such law suit. It does have the earmarks of an Internet hoax. ...

Recent RC death and AMA claim

For those of you who think this rumored suit against the AMA is crazy, check out this article in the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A34631-2002Sep3.html

Recent RC death and AMA claim

Most folks in the U.S. think that if something bad happens to a good person, they should be compensated. Most folks in the U.S. also think that insurance is pretty much "free money". When you put...

Re: Receiver on/off switch position

Yes, it does matter. It matters so much that I doubt any decent ARF maker intended you to turn on the receiver before you put the wing on. Most likely, they intended you to use a stiff wire through...

ARF's versus KIT's the saga continues

I'm curious what those of you who are opposed to ARFs (or think that they are ruining the hobby, or have other negative effects), think about SPADs (www.spad.org). The reason I ask is that SPAD's...

ARF's versus KIT's the saga continues

I find the whole kit vs ARF thing very strange. Why some people seem to read a moral failing into it is beyond me. All that is happening is the same rising affluence that affects all hobbies and...

Re: Does your wife/girlfriend really hate your hobby?

My wife is very supportive, but I know plenty that aren't. You know what really steams me is that I know of no husbands that object to their wive's hobbies. If she wants to buy all the plants she...

ARF's versus KIT's the saga continues

I think you're mostly correct, but not completely. An ARF has to be covered, then put in a box to ship. In my experience, that means that even for .40 sized trainers, the wing halves are covered...

I thought the September 2002 issue was really good! I liked the article "Matching Propeller to Model Mission" article, as well as the "Safety Comes First" column. A lot of people have asked why...

Cheapscapes??

A lot of the people you are talking about are probably older folks. In the past things cost a lot less, and many people find it difficult to adjust. Also, folks were less affluent in the past, so...

Putting five inch stripes on lower wings.

I agree with Wyohi. Cover the entire wing with white, then add the red stripes on top. The alternative, would be to get a big piece of glass, cut the stripes first, and then using a 1/4" overlap,...

impressions of SPAD planes???

If you can fly a 4*, you can fly a Das Plas Stick. I went from my trainer to the Das Plas Stick. It took me a few flights to get used to the fact that the plane was 100 times as responsive as a...

impressions of SPAD planes???

It's about right if you're buying from the local sign shop. (They usually don't really want to sell their raw materials, so they pick round numbers that are pretty high.) Mail order is less than...

Poll; Landing pattern? Answer two if they apply

I think you're really asking which direction we like to turn. I can do both quite well, but there's something about a left turn that I like better than a right.

FlyingLocksmith, I'm with you. My wife is very supportive of this hobby, but airplanes aren't her thing and I do enjoy the time away from the family with my friends. There's only one activity that...
