RE: Unknown Fokker Dr1 - CG ???

If its any help, years ago I built a quarter scale triplane from the Bill Effinger plans and when trying to fly it it appeared very tail heavy. His plans put the CG at about one and a quarter inches...

RE: BD-10 gets a WREN 44

I too have one of the Wren 44's, the manual start version, and love it. If your power curve "problem" is what I think it is, it's just the fact that the thrust output from the turbine is not linear...

RE: Radial engines and planes

I've put the Saito 1.70 radial in a Platt Zero and it's the perfect fit both physically and power output wise. There are a few photos on one of these build threads somewhere about the Zero. Maybe I...

RE: DUCTED FAN JETS

Yes the OS 46VXDF is still available over here. I bought one thru Larry at Jethangar Hobbies along with a Turbax fan and pipe. That was over a year ago, but I see advertisements for it on Tower...

RE: Parts for AV8R? Where to get them....

The tail parts should be pretty easy to make again if you have the plans, or actually the computer drawings, that Pat put in the kit. You could scale up the drawing and build new parts from it. I...

RE: Getting into DF

I've had one JetHangar F-86 powered with the old OS 46 VRDF and at 10.5 pounds dry it still flew 'respecfully', even at Utah's 4200' elevation. Not blistering fast but realistic speed. However, with...

RE: jet hanger F-86

Hi Kev.

I too found a good deal on an old F-86 kit that was sitting in somebody's basement and I bought it with the intention of putting a Wren 44 manual start turbine in it. I have the engine...

RE: Really Stupid Question

I also agree about wanting to 'know' about impending problems by seeing glitches as it happens so I can land immediately and check things out. PCM doesn't give you this early warning, it masks minor...

RE: Really Stupid Question

The AMA reg (document 510A) requires all radios to have fail safe. This means PCM is good and PPM if it has an aftermarket failsafe device add-on (if there is such a thing). I've read some time ago...

RE: A final word : Are Ramtecs discontinued ?

I think TRIMAIR in Australia is the manufacturer or distributer. Also try Greatnorthernmodels or Avonds in Belgium.

RE: 10% oil in model turbine fuel!

Why not just do as the manufacturer(s) recommend, thats what I do. I'm sure they all have spent much time and effort to get the engines to run well and also have good longevity. I have a Simjet that...

RE: Need Help Setting up Futaba 9C and ECU

Also don't forget to change your Throttle chanel from NORM to REVERSE. Futaba uses negative pulses and most if not all electric speed controls and ECU's are programmed to respond to positive pulses....

RE: K&B .48 vs OS 46 VXDF

I think the first 'dedicated' K&B ducted fan engine was the 7.5 with rear exhaust and rear, drum rotor induction. Just before K&B closed business they redesigned it into the 48 version and only made...

RE: K&B .48 vs OS 46 VXDF

Larry Wolfe at Jethangar Hobbies liked the (then new) K&B 48 but soon after MECOA purchased the K&B assets they stopped making ducted fan engines dispite pleas from larry. The OS purple head 46VX is...

RE: Fuel cans, jugs, containers, station, etc..

I too have seen the jersey and abell fuelers and they're nice for sure, but I just don't have bundles of money to throw around. Besides, some of us just like to build things ourselves. I already have...

RE: BVM F-86 + MW44

I have one of the new MW44 Gold manual start engines, but I haven't mounted it in a test stand to get familiar with the start technique yet. I bought a used but unflown AMD Hawk arf and am going thru...

RE: Attack of the Clones

I too have one of these AMD arfs that I bought from a guy that converted it to turbine but never flew it. I didn't like the way a lot of things were set up so have been going thru the whole plane...

RE: AV8R setup

Here are a few shots of the landing gear after I put a little more bend in it. You could also try shortening the nose gear and/or put a smaller wheel up there, but this plane would be happier with...

RE: AV8R setup

The first few landings I made with my AV8R it would bounce too, even landings that were 'fairly' smooth. The way I fixed the 'problem' was to raise the main gear a little. I removed it from the fuse...

RE: Builders Turbine Models?

I think most people are happy with the Facet series that Kerry Sterner designed. You can buy this kit from Greatnorthernmodels in Canada, a guy in my club is building one of these. Also PCM models...

RE: I need some foundation on a turbine rule

The wording that the AMA used on this issue "implies" that you need brakes but they don't come right out and say it. The rule says you must be able to stop your plane "on command" and that means...

RE: Reverse Expo for linear throttle response?

I've noticed the same 'problem' with my AV8R/Simjet 1200 when I first started flying it. The throttle end points I set up as Greatnorthernmodels recommend for Futaba radios (9C in my case) and it...

RE: Need new fuel pump assembly for 1200

I've got the new 100A flightworks pump installed and made one start this weekend. So far it's working great, the fastest startup I've ever had. It seemed the powermax was only burning a few seconds...

RE: Platt Zero

I'm just about finished with my Zero. I've yet to run the engine in the backyard and adjust it, but our field is still covered in water and mud so it'll be a few weeks before I can fly it. It's...
