Hello and thank you!
I wouldn't recommend building a burner like my drawing because it is somewhat difficult and temperamental to operate. I would be much easier to build a normal alcohol wick...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Hi, here are some pictures of the steam plant. The condenser is the small metal "barrel", it serves to collect the water drops that condense from the engine exhaust and the oil residue, otherwise the...

RE: tugboat smok stack advice *UPDATE*

The stack itself looks very nice. However, it is a bit odd because it is the same height as the cab. I would suggest making the smokestak somewhat higher. Easily done if you add a sort of base under...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Thanks!

What kind of steam engine do you have?
I'd recommend building a wooden hull. It's somewhat time consuming, but worth it.

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

I used to have a silicon hose too, it worked fine too.
However, steam did actually melt the soft solder, because it was at the connection to an older oiler I used to have, so quite far from the...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Hello!

Some news about my tugboat: added window panels (clear plastic), brass rails, anchors, chains and anchor windlass, two new portholes and some locks for the deck.
Also modified the steam...

RE: Saito Star open launch

Nice boat. I liked the wooden one too. Can't say about the new one until I see it mounted on the boat.

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Questions for the expert modelers around here:

Where should I place the position lights? I don't think i want to add a mast.
The red and green lights will probably sit on top of the roof, but...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Hello. Did a few more things this week:

- built a taller smoke stack out of brass tube,

- added lots of handmade brass hinges for the doors and windows.

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Thanks all!

I've added some more details. Bought two curved ventilator pipes (cast bronze) and installed them close to the chimney, and put a ready-made bell on top of the anchor winch. The bell...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Hi everyone. This Sunday I have added a custom hook to the tugboat. Grinded a brass piece in the right shape for that. It's soldered together (support rail to base) and screwed to the deck. The hook...

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

Hi Peter,

I can only recommend the steam engine accessories from Niggel. That oiler is very well made. The website is http://www.modellbau-niggel.de/ and I don't know of any other suppliers....

RE: RC live steam tugboat / icebreaker

That's correct and it's useful, otherwise one can't do maintenance work on the engine in such a tight space.
I will be able to remove the boiler and engine quite easily. They are mounted both in...

RE: thinking of steam

You have to install a separate steam valve on the pipe connecting boiler and engine. There are such valves with a lever instead of a wheel, so they are suitable for rc control.
