RE: IMAC manuver help

OK, my identification of a forced entry was wrong, but not the consequences. Thanks for clarifying the rule.

Interesting definition of forced entry. Pattern either currently or recently had a...

RE: Where to start?

flying hands off inverted and not climbing is a sign of being tail heavy. Same of your 45 degree test.

RE: IMAC manuver help

Not exactly. It is not a forced entry to lead with the rudder. It is your only means of controlling a spin to the left or the right. And since there are spins with cross box exits, you need to...

RE: What Plane For IMAC ?

The truth is, barring bad design or construction, the larger the plane, the better it will fly. That is why there is no correllation between how one of these .40 size kits will fly compared to a 40%...

RE: I have an itch to compete

They are right. Just go and fly. You will have fun and will start learning things much quicker than as a spectator.

On the IMAC web site are several files which will help you. First, there is...

RE: Help the GAS NEWBIE out PLZ!!!

Maybe its so obvious that no one else mentioned it, but you will need some type of measuring device to measure your oil in the correct ratio needed to add to your gas. Don't forget the oil.:D

RE: Pac Aero Edge 520T 60/100 as a third plane...

The Edge is a great first aerobatic plane. What makes it "tame" is its leading edge, which lowers its stall speed significantly. But the Edge is also a good 3D airplane.

However, and I'll be...

RE: What Plane For IMAC ?

In Basic, you can fly anything you want. But above Basic, you need a plane that is a model of a full size that has or is known to be able to compete in an aerobatic box. Somehow, I don't think...

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

I dislike the advance sequence. It may be fun to fly, but it stinks to judge. Especially if every pilot insists on gigantic figures. As I mentioned before, Figures 1 and 3 are flown way out on...

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

On the IMAC web site there is a walkthrough of the Basic, Sportsman and Intermediate sequences. They didn't think the Advanced and Unlimited pilots needed that type of help.

Personally, I don't...

RE: Any BASIC IMAC Video's ?

I think David was flying Advanced at the Challenge. I did judge him and it was a close race between him and second place. David flew very well.

But that said, there was maybe one or two pilots...

RE: Who's "All in!" for Bakersfield?

I'll be there. The big 39% Edge came to an early end. It was resurected by a buddy and it still flies, but the engine needs to be returned for service. I'll be flying Bill's 33% Edge that he flew...

RE: JR Challenge 2005

Personally, I like centering. It is a skill that will be lost with the zoneless box.

I enjoyed the Blind Man's Bluff. Maybe because I was calling. I was lucky, I was calling the Sportsman...

RE: unlimited 2005 sequence question

We judges noticed all the downwind spins. You guys would try to slow down for the spin and would drift until the plane was almost a dot. It didn't help the judging, though I gave no downgrades for...

RE: Who's "All in!" for Bakersfield?

If you practice real hard, you can move up to Intermediate, and instead of waiting a couple of hours for your turn to fly, you can sit for a few hours judging Sportsman.

Me? I'll stick to...

RE: High oil content - carbon formation - results from test 1-3

Your study is interesting. My question is why are you running 93 octane fuel? My understanding is that higher octane fuel is needed by higher compression engines. The only high compression engine...

RE: Basic, Sportsman Only IMAC Contest

That's true. But one of the things I saw at the San Gabriel Valley events, year after year, were pilots coming out to try basic who otherwise never would have come to a full, two day event. It's...

RE: Basic, Sportsman Only IMAC Contest

As Bill wrote, Jim Riccio and the San Gabriel Valley Flyers have been doing this for a number of years at Whittier Narrows. I came and judged at almost all of the events. But it is primarily for...

RE: Spin entry? and Snaps...

"Not quite right. Let me clarify this a bit. What Barry is really trying to say here is that if you yaw the plane prior to the start of the autorotation of the spin for anything other than wind...

RE: Spin entry? and Snaps...

OK, I checked the pattern rules, and they are the same as the scale aerobatic rules as to the stall in a spin. Both require the nose and the wing to drop simultaneously.

If you yaw the plane to...

RE: Sig Cap 231 ex

The Sig Cap 231 ex is short coupled. That means the distance between the wing and the stab is short. To explain what this means, look at any pattern plane and you will see they are designed to...

RE: Spin entry? and Snaps...

This video is a good learning tool.

The spin was a zero. There was no stall or autorotation. The nose was pointed down and was followed by an aileron roll. There are videos of both the basic...

RE: Spin entry? and Snaps...

For IMAC, a proper spin entry involves the simultaneous dropping of the nose and wing when the plane reaches stall speed. If the nose only drops first, then that is a deduction. I believe pattern...

RE: Newby To IMAC Question

And now for some trivia:

For all the IMAC flying you will do, Paul's answer was correct.

But I learned something new from an IAC Aresti instructor at the Tucson Shootout - Julie Johnson. ...
