On the UB ? yea, that's most likely fairly accurate. By the time any large plane looks like its actually going fast, it probably doing well over 250 ..

Nice! You must have been 'giving it death' as the Bandit drivers here in the UK say when they 'forget to throttle back'! Come over to the UK - we don't have a max speed limit!! Any reason why you fitted an iGyro to a Bandit? They fly sweet enough without any additional tweaks. The BARF II is on my wish list - I just fitted the full door set to my BARF I, and that makes a real difference to top end speed. There will always be a Bandit in my collection!

Those are typical speeds for this setup.. not too high and pleasant to watch. The Cheetah is also one of the nicest sounding engines around, congrats!

Hey Paul,,

I love that combination. I have a Super Bandit with Merlin 140, which is crazy fast. Too fast for me.. if I hold it open..

Be aware though GPS is not always that accurate, especially when measuring top speed. I have GPS logging on my Bandit and sometimes I get an unexplained spike in the speed readings. What I think happens is sometimes the GPS signal is momentarily lost, and when it reacquires, it "jumps" to the new position..

Not sure how the I gyro calculates speed, its accuracy must depend upon the number of position samples it averages. If it is only a small sample then the speed could be way off.

Still, it is good fun to play with. Be careful though. (As I know you will ).. You are well out side what BV recommends for these models..

That one is almost without question a sample rate induced GPS spike. Ie, false indication. 354 mph is quite a stretch.

Does it use GPS? For a GPS reading you would need the whole log file and check the level flights for a sort of avarage. As it states airspeed I assume GPS was not used with the iGyro

I thought iGyro were good stuff but you start to wonder when they state GPS speed as airspeed. [X(][X(][X(]

I bet it was a nice flight. Try to do the same you did in a r/c club at a higher altitude ASl and you will have a nice suprise!

Congratulations, Enrique.

yes, that lets you know that science is not their strong point.

Do any of you know how this iGyro unit works. yes I realise it takes a series of GPS position measurements, and then divides the distance change by time to get the speed.
But how often does it do it?? Is it once per second or a hundred times a second, or what???

Then does it take a time-average of speed values over a second or two and display that? ? ? ? ?

Or does it just display the highest recorded individual speed reading (in which case it is usless nonsense)???
In that case highhorse would be right: it just displays a GPS spike, it looks for the worst position error and displays fiction (but clever fiction as it's what you want to hear)

Agreed, I'd say your average Ultra is doing something like 270mph

I used Eagletree a few years ago in a Bobcat with a Wren Supersport and a Super bandit with a P120. Both these were showing too high but when the data was downloaded you could see what were spikes and what were proper curves. The Super was doing 295mph and the Bobcat was doing 254 mph.

Just checked my P-200 powered Ultra Bandit and it's showing 538kph. Certainly did not look anywhere near that!
