I just got some hardened steel pins (dowels) from a company called www.dixiepins.com These pins are available in exact diameters and you can order them by the each if needed. I believe they were about $18 each. This pin will be used on a Behotec nose gear pin which for some reason on my jet had a longer than usual pin (about an inch longer) than the standard Behotec pin. As a result I had to find another source as Comp Arf only offers the standard length pin.

I did find a couple of long bolts from the hardware store that were 5/16" dia. These Dixie pins are the exact diameter of what I have. .315 which is just a hair wider than 5/16 and they fit perfect.

Just a heads up in case anyone is looking. This is a good company.

$18 bucks for a steel pin? Who-wee that seems like a lot.

I only say this because I bent the pin in my nose gear and replaced it with a piece of mild steel I had kicking around in my scrap bin. I was worried it was too soft but guess what? Ever since I went to that soft steel pin I haven't broken a nose gear trunion (which I certainly would've at least twice). It just gently bends and saves the rest of the aircraft.

I meant 17 for the set. But yeah even at 8.50 bucks still kinda pricey. At any rate, it was nice to find a company that could give me exactly what I needed.

Why do people say crap like that. I have 3 jets, 3 kids in daycare, new house to fit three kids.

At $5/ flt for fuel alone I agree that flying jets isn't a bargain hobby, but the attitude is just silly.

Why not just buy drill blanks and use them. Can get them in any size you want..

I got tired of breaking the polished hard steel pins and watching others have the same problem. I went to a softer general purpose 8mm steel rod. Bought 3 ft and just cut to size. McMaster has it @ $8.43 for 3 ft. Now, when I screw up, the pin just bends and replaces easily.</p>
