Never heard of that boat but after a search this is what I found. Is this the correct boat?<div></div><div>http://www.valuehobby.com/night-hawk-rc-boat.html</div><div></div><div>Assuming it is the correct boat there is a few things I like and some things i dislike. I see it comes with a seaking 120 esc which are amazing esc's and my fav brand of esc (hobbywing). The motor is a cheep FSD motor and the high kv has me veryconcerned being 4122kv that makes this a 2s boat, 3s the unloaded kv would be way to high. I don't like the motor selection at all. I see the hulls part number is "TFL". If that is indeed a TFL hull then the hull itself should perform very well. I have 2 TFL hulls and love them both. The popular Pursuit 32 mono is a TFL hull and they run amazing. I don't like the price at all for that price you have a lot of different options you can get with it especially if shipping is not free. If you pay $9.99 at tower hobbies you can get the membership plan and get free shipping and discount codes which means you could snag a Aquacraft Motley Crew for the same price after you add the $50 off coupon code and you would get free shipping. I think there is better options around that price... JMHO</div><div></div><div>Positive:</div><div>- seaking esc</div><div>- possible TFL hull</div><div>- hardware looks decent</div><div></div><div>Negatives:</div><div>- Price + shipping is high, better boats avail for similar price</div><div>- motor selection is terrible</div><div>- im sure it comes with 4mm 2pc drive as most china boats do</div><div>- would need to open strut up to accept 3/16 stub shafts</div><div></div><div>* In this price range I would personally choose a Proboat Impulse 31 for a mono</div><div>* If not sold on a mono and open to other hulls I would choose a Proboat Mystic, Proboat Miss Geico or Aquacraft Motley Crew. Without a doubt those are the top notch rtr boats on the market right now.</div>

<span style="font-family: verdana, helvetica, arial; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; ">DIESEL6401 has the right boat, the right web site. There is one other place, on E Bay that has the same boat. I did not think that 283 without battery or shipping was a bad price.
Was mostly swayed by the high kv value on the motor. Tell me more on the negative aspects of the engine, e.g. unloaded kv etc.
Was also looking at the Motley crue and the Mystic 29, both at 359. Plan on running on calm pond mostly with about 300 foot straight aways. Have experience with gas hydoplane on 500 foot straight aways.
Motley Crue, Mystic 29, Impulse 31??? Looking for raw speed, mostly out of the box. Suggested Battery(s)?
Thanks</span>

With the Tower discount code which is $9.99 you'll get the coupon codes in your email. Then the Motley Crew which is $349 http://www.towerhobbies.com/products.../aqub2100.html you can get for $300 and free shipping that is the much better deal vs the boat you listed. The boat you listed also looks like this: http://www.nitrorcx.com/99b-10021-650-ep-artr.html which is more in the price range I would expect. The $283 from Value is just too high for what you get IMHO. <div>
</div><div>About the motor the kv is just way way to high. Your target unloaded rpms is mid to high 20k to low to mid 30k. To get that number it's kv x voltage. So let's say 4122 is the motor kv.</div><div>
</div><div>2s (7.4v) x 4122 = 30,502 which is more in the proper range. </div><div>3s (11.1v) x 4122 = 45,754 unloaded rpms which is just out of control and not needed</div><div>
</div><div>So the boat can be fine on 2s in terms of unloaded rpms, but the high kv really limits your prop selection. That high kv is all about top end rpms and not about torque which is opposite in what you want in boating. If I was to purchase that boat I would throw the motor away or put it in one of my cars which is where that motor is better suited, it's not a good boating unless your in a 2s race class setup which that kv range could work for other then that it has no place in sport boating and not recommended for the average rc boater. </div><div>
</div><div>The Motley Crew, Impulse 31, Mystic and Miss Geico are all 4s boats (2x 2s lipos in series). They are all rather close in out of the box speed and all perform excellent. Customer service for Horizon and Tower are both excellent and part are easy to obtain. The mono (impulse 31) will handle chop better then the cats will. </div><div>
</div><div>I've owned 2 boats similar in size to the boat you listed and both ran on 4s and both where fast as hell.</div><div>
</div><div>This boat ran 4s on ul1 power which is a 60amp esc, and the 3656 size motor with 2030kv motor and x440: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibBA7YHXjTI </div><div>This boat is a Delta Force 23" mono running on 4s 120amp seaking esc with a 2860 size motor 2550kv and a y537/3 prop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHq9h78pFEE</div>

Thanks for your reply. I'm new to the electric boat field and trying to find my way around the electronics and what it all means. I have seen your replies over on offshore electronics forums also, so it looks like you are the guru on this electronic stuff. Again thanks - I need to digest this stuff but it looks like I'll steer away from the night hawk.
