The weather is getting pretty nice and I am thnking about getting into the boat scene. I am relatively new to the hobby in general but, I have my fair share. I currently have a plane, micro heli, SC10 & Rustler VXL. I have been doing some research and I need some advice about the hull shapes over the other, electronics/motors & durability. I am looking for a boat that is both fast and durable. From what the people that Irace with tell me, the Traxxas Spartan is the best way to go for speed and taking a punch but, the people that gave me that advice don't own a boat themselves. Others that Ihave ran into while searching were Segad C1 & King of Shaves C1 (electric). I am willing to build one since, by looking at the components, doesn't seem to much of a headache. Thanks.

My brother got a Miss Geico and it has run well since day one. it has room for improvement, we stuck a neu 1515 in and now the boat flies accross the water on 4s, we will try 5s later.
I suggest the Miss Geico or if you want try making your own boat, I made my boat and I am vary happy with it.
I have heard very very mixed reviews on the spartan, I cannot talk about it personally and I don't think your friends should be telling you to get one if they don't have experience with one either.
There are other plenty good alternatives as well. I hear the Motley Crue and the impulse are okay, but once again I have no experience with these and you would have better luck when someone with one of these boats chimes in.
As far as hull choice goes. I run a large v hull, gets plenty of speed and good handling, granted you wont see it make a turn perfectly level like a cat, but I like how it carves in the water.
The v's are great when the water your run at has lots of waves.
catamarans are also great for light to moderate waves. they can go just as fast if not faster than v hulls of similar size and they also turn level and extremely fast.
The v and the catamaran are both excellent entry type hulls.
the following hulls are a more advanced setup
the shovel nose and other hydroplanes glide over the water but they require very flat running conditions.
Outriggers are another type of hydroplane which uses pontoons on the frount for stability, the back rides out of the water and just the prop stays in the water. dangerous if there is too much chop.
tunnelhulls are some of the most annoying hulls to setup, not the ideal descision. there are faster hulls with similar if not better handling. from what I understand people like them for the outboards and the scale look, which I completely endorse. they look pretty awesome.
durability isn't something you really need to worry about, unless you are crashing your boat this wont be a problem.
You might want to consider what kind of drive system you want, outboards, outdrives, jet drives(very cool).
For a fast boat you are most likely going to need a brushless system. there are plenty of affordable options as well.
the motor will need a water cooling jacket to keep from melting,
the esc will also need water cooling. same hazards.
the hull material is also somethign which should be considered, the spartan is made of abs plastic, at it's rated 50mph, if that thing flips you are looking at the very big possibility of cracking the hull.
the miss geico and plenty other boats are made of fiber glass which will survive high speed flips much better.

porto you ask the same as most everyone else does and they all have their bugaboos even if you build it from the hull up. my .02 is if you like how the hull looks google it and see what the peeps running them have to say and go from there good luck.

I agree with you. I just don't want to break the bank over something RTR when I could build something for the same price and might be better. So far I'm really considering the Catamaran style of hull. The Segad C1 is what I really want. But Im sure that you can make one better or just as good for less. I am trying to price everything down. I found a body off the offshore websites. Figured its the place to start checking since its well announced by others. As for the ESC, Motor, & Servo I don't know where to go for that. I check it all on the website and there are great options. But does the hull have any play with the motor selections. I do want to go with the brushless system for the power as ya'll said before. The Segad C1 comes with2 V380 Marine Outrunner 2700KV. If I buy one RTR or build I want it to have two motors so Ican upgrade.I didn't know that there were so many decisions for motors alone. Nothing like the Car/Truck setups lol. What is the difference between brushless & outrunner? I have looked at the cooling systems and that is something Ican totally understand. Same concept to a real boat (ex navy). But as for everything in my head its just a motor>shaft>prop. Doesn't look to complicated but, can't get a hold of a diagram of the Segad. Any insight?

Depends how much fun u want.... im building up a brushless toy grade mono hull with some traxxas parts....
If i could start again I would build a Brushless one of these [link=http://www.vac-u-boat.com/Vacuduck.htm] Click here
[/link]
No kidding Im assuming a fast one of these would get people talking

That is definitely the way to get the people talking.
I started talking to my uncle and he said for my first boat I shouldn't spend too much and all that stuff. I agree and kept looking online for something around 300-400 area that rip the waters. My friend reminded me of the www.HobbyKing.com website. As I went through the site and looked at the products they had available his is everand priced everything up. I would like to list everything and see what your advice would be and see if I am missing anything too. So far this is everything off that website if you know of other sites that have a product better in quality for a good price please list as well.

i am seeing more and more people using outrunners for the heli's in their boats i have a supposedly brand new never touched water king of shaves arriving tommorrow and im already pricing new motors lol sad isnt it. i like the speed but ive wasted alot of money between the spartan i had and converting my miss vegas deuce into fe. the spartan by far has been the biggest wallet drainer. personally i would rather have something running in the 40's and is dependable then to to try and cram huge batts and motors etc into a hull to try and acheive 50-60 that isnt dependable . im not into the racing scene i did watch the local boat club run and was close to getting into the group but imho most of them were arrogant dinks esp the ones with their rv's and 20 gas boats in the bellies of them. a few were ok that were running the fe's i have a few 26cc gassers and a few fe's now but i would rather go relax at the water and from what i seen there was probably 4 or 5 that were relaxing the rest had their hineyholes wound up so tight you could play a tune on em. i just finished a pursuit i got from hk and with the help of deisel talking to him i have a good reliable setup that with a batt and prop change will make her run very fast but out on the ragged edge. just remember google is your best freind read read read and if you have questions guys like deisel will pm back and forth with you and tell you how your setup will be.

Im new to RCuniverse. I just got a miss vegas duece 18stock. I am trying to pull out the driveshaft and it not wanting to come out!
I loosened the collet as the manuel said. I even took the prop off and now I put a pair of plieres on the shaft and pulled hard, it still would not come off. Ive tryed turning the driveshaft the left, and right still will not come off.
Help please,

The Segad hull runs better on a single motor setup with the batteries in the sponsons but the dual runs great in the straights but is a turd in the turns she likes to roll. Ihave a bare ekos hull which is the same as the segad hull with different decals. Ill be running a single setup, prob a single T600 outrunner. Outrunners have a awesome sound that inrunners just can't touch! Ihad twin 32" hotr hull running on 2 outrunners called "el cheapo" she was a discount build i did and she was pushing 60mph and reliable! It's not how much you spend its all about what you spend it on!
To the OP..
As for the spartan I wouldn't touch that boat with a ten foot pole, it's a overpriced turd. 50mph is not that hard to do with a boat at all, perfect example a stock ul1 with a prop swap and strut adjustment can touch 50mph on 4s. I have a 32" mono I put together for way less then a spartan and runs mid 50s on 4s. Don't lt the 6s 50MPH+ sticker on the side draw you in, its marketing hype.

My suggestion for that hull is buy it, sell the motor on ebay as new. Re-inforce the area around the motor mount. Buyto 5s 4000mah orhigher30c or higher lipos for a 5s2p setup. Drop a leopard 4082 1600kv motor in it, OSE has them and buy the seaking 180 esc. Take the strut off the back and remove the 2 4mm bushings inside the strut. Replace those bushings with 1 3/16 bushing you'll have to drill into the strut with a 1/4" drill bit to make the new bushing fit. After thata .187 size cable with a 3/16 stub on it and a 5mm to .187 motor coupler. That setup matched with a x642 or prather s220 with that setup if properly adjust you should have a very reliable 50mph+ big ole CAT!
That's very similar to how Iran mine expect leopard motors didn't exist when Ihad mine and Iran a Feigao 580L which had some problems and was less effcient then the Leopard.

Could you give me links to the setup that you just mentioned (hull, electronics, etc.) so Icould price out the project. Is it hard to put together. IMO it doesn't look at hard as Car/Truck. I could be wrong though. Thanks for the help.</p>

The bare hull is at fightercatracing.com you have to sign up (its free and takes 2 minutes) to see all the items. Ben is great guy to deal with and everything you need can be purchased there. Also building logs can be found on his forum. Its different then setting up a car/truck. If the hardware is pre-mounted, stuffing tube laid inand motor mount installed it's not bad at all. If it's a bare hull its more time consuming then setting up a car/truck imho.
heres the bare hull http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...t&Itemid=1
heres the cf hull http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...t&Itemid=1
thats the same hull as the Genesis you listed from HK. You can see those to hulls under my login, but you may not be able to navigate the site without a actual login.
motor: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...82&cat=148
esc: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...er-seaking-180
Depending on if you go the bare hull route or the genesis modded route will determine what all you will need. The motor escs will work with any of them. There is also the motor/esc combo package which is a good deal http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ose-4082-combo

Thank you for the links and help. These hulls are very nice and of course Ilike the CF version but for my first boat I would go with the reg bare hull. I feel like there is more that I could have to get with just that hull. Like the trays and fastners for the batteries and electronics inside. Are there hulls to run a 2 motor/prop? Like do they come with the holes for the shafts or would I have to do that myself?

you would have to do that yourself and twice the cost. plenty of room for twin setup though. If this is your first boat i would really suggest buying a rtr and learning with that. The Aquacraft Motley Crew, Proboat Miss Gieco, Proboat Mysitc and Proboat Impulse 31 are all good first boats. Boats are completly different from planes and cars. Ihave boats, planes and trucks and boats are in a league of their own.
